Primary: Arabic Week

Primary Arabic Week was filled with engaging activities that gave students opportunities to explore the Arabic language, culture and artistic traditions through 

interactive and hands-on experiences.

Throughout the week, students from Years 1 to 5 participated in special year-level assemblies centred around the Arabic language. A highlight of the assemblies was an exciting quiz-style Arabic game show, where students put their language skills to the test in front of their peers. Some of our strongest Arabic students competed for prizes, creating plenty of friendly rivalry, while their classmates enthusiastically followed along and cheered them on.

Each assembly also featured student performances choreographed by our Primary Arabic teachers. The performances showcased the enthusiasm of our students and reflected the preparation and effort that went into making Arabic Week a memorable celebration.

Our Year 6 students enjoyed a different cultural experience, taking part in a traditional bread-making activity in the College’s Senior Food Technology Centre. This hands-on activity introduced students to an important aspect of Arabic culture and allowed them to connect their language learning with traditional food preparation in a practical and enjoyable way.

Another special feature of the week was a visit from Lubna from Latibule Art Studio, who introduced our Primary students to the beautiful art of Arabic calligraphy. Students explored the history of this timeless art form and discovered different calligraphy styles, beginning with Thuluth. They learned about the nuqta, the traditional unit of measurement used to create proportion and balance in Arabic lettering, and examined a traditional reed (qalam) pen that has been used by calligraphers for centuries.

With one-on-one guidance from Lubna and support from our Primary Arabic teachers, students had the opportunity to practise holding the pen correctly and creating 

their own Arabic calligraphy.

Primary Arabic Week provided students with meaningful opportunities to experience Arabic beyond the classroom through language, performance, food and art. We sincerely thank our Primary Arabic team for organising another memorable week, and Lubna from Latibule Art Studio for sharing her knowledge and helping our students develop a deeper appreciation of the Arabic language, culture and Islamic artistic tradition.
