Level 4

Daily review and Rocket Writes

Every morning, the Level 4 students participate in a daily review of the learning from previous days and weeks, as well as a 'Rocket Write'. This is where students spend 15 minutes writing to a prompt in any genre they like. The prompts can be anything, from leaves, to doors, to creatures of the deep! Below is a poem written by Charlie in 4KR for the prompt 'Leaves'.

Writing

Recently in Writing, the students have been working on developing a persuasive piece to convince their audience about a topic. They have been working on their persuasive writing skills by incorporating persuasive techniques and applying each stage of the writing process to create and publish engaging pieces of writing.

The students have also been learning poetry this term. In recent weeks, the Level 4s have been learning about similes and hyperboles. To practise using these types of figurative language, students wrote about a feeling or emotion. Below are some examples of this.

Reading

In Reading, students have been learning about cause-and-effect relationships in texts and explaining how events are connected. They have been identifying the reasons why events occur and the consequences that follow, using evidence from the text to support their thinking. Through this work, students are developing their comprehension skills and deepening their understanding of how actions, decisions and events influence outcomes.

Maths

Students have been building a deeper understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages, recognising the equivalence between them and exploring the connections between these representations. They have practised converting between fractions, decimals and percentages, comparing and ordering values. Students have also explored how these concepts are used in real-life situations, such as calculating discounts while shopping and interpreting percentages in data and statistics.

Inquiry

This week we started an Inquiry Project with students working collaboratively in groups to design and perform a skit about the rules and laws within specific communities. They are exploring why rules and laws are important, how they help communities function effectively, and the consequences of not following them.
