Italian Update

BUONGIORNO!
UPCOMING ITALIAN SCHOOL EVENT!
Salve a tutti! (Hello everyone!)
I’m excited to remind our school community that we will soon be having our FESTA ITALIANA - St Fidelis’ Italian Day very shortly this term! Please put the following details in your diary…
Quando? (When): Martedì 16 giugno 2026 (Tuesday 16th June 2026)
Dove? (Where): Scuola Elementare di St Fidelis
L’orario (Time): 9:00am - 2:30pm (TBC)
As part of the festivities, we will be having our usual sfilata di costumi italiani (Italian themed dress up parade), which means mamma / papà / sorella / fratello / nonna / nonno, get those creative juices flowing and start thinking about what Italian costume your child could wear? Perhaps…a famous Italian? an Italian landmark? a fashion label? an Italian vehicle? Italian Food???
You could make it together or perhaps you already have something made / bought that your child/ren could wear. Families have done an amazing job in the past, so I’m looking forward to seeing how creative our St Fidelis school community is this year! 😊
I wonder if anyone has been watching the Giro d’Italia? (the Italian 3 week bike race). I know it is on tv quite late at night but you can watch repeats the following day during the morning and sometimes during the day also. I absolutely love watching i ciclisti, (the cyclists) racing through various parts of the Italian countryside and neighbouring countries to ultimately get to the finish line first. If you haven’t watched it, you may be able to watch some of the highlights too. It is so lovely to see cyclists riding through the Italian countryside. The other night I was watching the race taking place in Alessandria, (northern Italy), which I have been to many years ago and then passed alongside the second biggest lake in Italy, Lago Maggiore, which is also part of Italy’s Northern lakes district. It’s belissimo up there!
I also recently went down to the Pasticceria Brunetti in Carlton, where I saw a number of racing bikes and retro Italian cyclist jerseys, (which have certainly changed from today's jerseys), on display throughout the cafè, paying homage to the current Giro d’Italia race. You might like to check them out with your families too if you are in the area but they will only be there for a little while longer. 🚴
FESTA DELLA REPUBBLICA
Next Tuesday 2 giugno (2nd June), you may or may not know, La Festa della Repubblica will be taking place. This is a special day that is celebrated in the Italian calendar. Stay tuned for more information about this annual Italian event coming soon.
I hope you have enjoyed reading this week’s Italian news articles. Until next time…buona settimana a tutti! (Have a good week everyone). 🙂
