Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Families,
National Reconciliation Week
This week we acknowledge and celebrate National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to consider how we can contribute to reconciliation in our everyday lives.
At St Fidelis, we are committed to fostering respect, understanding and inclusion within our school community. Throughout the week, students will participate in learning experiences and discussions that help deepen their appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and traditions.
In week seven the whole school will engage in a Whole School Cultural Awareness Performance for Reconciliation Week.
National Reconciliation Week reminds us of the importance of walking together with respect, compassion and hope as we continue to build stronger relationships within our community and across our nation.
School Gate Opening
I would like to remind all families that the school gates open at 8:30am. Children should not arrive before this time. We have observed a number of students arriving 15–20 minutes early, often riding their bikes or playing in the streets without supervision. To ensure the safety of all students, any child arriving before 8:30am must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
As a reminder, you can register for Before School Care with MACSEYE to ensure your child is supervised safely before the gates open. Information regarding MACSEYE can be found on the MACSEYE page in this newsletter, click on this link.
Additionally, the Benny Lane gate remains closed in the morning, children can enter via Hawthorn Street and Saunders Street gate. This allows staff to clearly monitor children in Benny Lane and help ensure their safety.
Another reminder that all parents are required out of the classroom by 8:50am.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us provide a safe and well supervised environment for all students.
Help Us Preserve Our 1927 School Heritage
Do You Have Restoration Skills or Contacts?
Help Bring Our Original 1927 Doors Back to Life ?
Can You Help Restore a Piece of Our School’s History?
During our 2021 school refurbishment, we were fortunate to recover several of the original classroom doors from 1927, a special part of our school’s rich history and heritage. (see photo below)
As next year marks our Centenary Year, a group of parents and teachers have already begun planning celebrations and commemorative activities. One of these special projects is the restoration and display of these original doors in our school foyer as a tribute to the many generations of children and families who have been part of our community.
We currently have six of these original doors that require paint stripping, restoration, and cleaning so they can be proudly preserved and displayed for future generations to enjoy.
We are seeking support from within our community and would love to hear from anyone with experience, skills, or connections in restoration work who may be interested in helping coordinate or take on this special project.
As part of the restoration, families will also have the opportunity to purchase a small engraved plaque to be placed alongside the restored doors. This will provide a meaningful way for families to leave a lasting connection to our school and become part of its ongoing story and history. (See example)
Funds raised through this initiative will support the restoration and preservation of these historical pieces for future generations to enjoy.
If you are able to assist or would like to express interest in supporting the project, please contact Manuela - principal@sfmoreland.catholic.edu.au.
We look forward to celebrating and preserving this important part of our school’s story together.
Kind regards and many thanks to this wonderful community, Manuela
Hope you all have a lovely week
Manuela
