Year 4 News

Wow, we can’t believe how fast the first half of the term has gone!
As a faith community, we gathered together for our Eucharist Family Night on Wednesday evening. Thank you to the students and families who attended and contributed so thoughtfully to this special occasion. We look forward to continuing to develop our knowledge and understanding of the sacrament of the Eucharist in preparation for our evening.
As writers, we have been exploring different themes in narratives. Students have been identifying themes within familiar texts, brainstorming characters and settings connected to these themes, and discussing how the books they have read can be categorised into different themes.
On Thursday, the Year 4 students attended the production of The Little Mermaid at Mercy College. Students thoroughly enjoyed watching the talented performers and were engaged by the music, costumes, and storytelling throughout the performance. The children enjoyed the popcorn and sausage sizzle after the production!
As mathematical thinkers, we have been exploring two-dimensional shapes, focusing on lines of symmetry and rotational symmetry. Students have been using hands-on materials, drawing a variety of shapes and patterns, and identifying and describing their lines of symmetry through collaborative and practical learning experiences.
As inquirers, we have been exploring significant events in Australian history, including the First Fleet, Australian Gold Rush, Eureka Stockade, Burke and Wills Expedition, Kelly Gang, and Federation of Australia. Students worked collaboratively in small groups to research these topics using a range of multimedia resources and shared their findings with their peers.
This week, our learning will include:
Numeracy: Symmetry and Rotation
Literacy: Storm Boy Novel and Movie Comparison
Writing: Narratives
Spelling: The digraph /ai/makes the sound "A" as in snail.
Inquiry: Exploration: How did it Shape Australia?
Religion: The Last Supper & Eucharist
