Where are they now?- Old Boys

Name
Gilbert Eliott
What year did you graduate from Epping Boys?
2016
Most memorable from Epping Boys.
It's difficult to choose a single moment- travelling to Honolulu and Mount Gambier (South Australia) to compete in music festivals were amazing experiences.
For me, the most memorable part of high school was the friends I made and the experiences we shared over six years. My friend group is still very close 10 years after graduating, which is something I am extremely grateful for.
Your favourite subject in school, and why?
Geography. I had some fantastic teachers and loved learning about the intersection of people and place within the natural and built environments. My interest in geography throughout high school ultimately led to my studies and career in urban planning.
What did you do straight after school?
I began a Bachelor of City Planning (Honours) degree at the University of New South Wales. My five year degree involved a semester abroad at the University of Illinois in the United States, a full time internship and a thesis (a major independent research project).
What career have you pursued?
I pursued a career in urban planning. I worked at a consulting firm based in the Sydney CBD for 6 years and recently joined the City of Ryde in October 2025 after spending six months travelling overseas. It’s a full circle moment to work in the Ryde area after being away for several years.
Advice to current students at Epping Boys?
Make the most of all the amazing opportunities available at Epping Boys, whether it be in academia, music or sport. Seek experiences that will help you grow and develop, even if that means getting out of your comfort zone. Finally, and most importantly, be kind to and thank your teachers!
