Maths

Welcome back to all students and families. I hope everyone had an enjoyable and restful school holiday.

2025 HSC Results
We congratulate the 2025 Year 12 cohort on their outstanding HSC achievements.
13 boys achieved a Band 6 in Mathematics Standard 2 (14% of the cohort compared to 9% of the state)
26 boys achieved a Band 6 in Mathematics Advanced (29% of the cohort compared to 23% of the state)
26 boys achieved an E4 in Mathematics Extension (53% of the cohort compared to 35% of the state)
19 boys achieved an E4 in Mathematics Extension 2 (90% of the cohort compared to 41% of the state)
These results reflect the dedication and perseverance of the students, supported by the expertise and commitment of their teachers. A sincere thank you to the 2025 Year 12 Mathematics team for their continued guidance and support throughout the HSC journey.
Implementation of the New Stage 6 Syllabus
In 2026, we are implementing the new NSW Stage 6 Mathematics syllabus across Year 11. The updated syllabus strengthens the focus on conceptual understanding, reasoning, modelling and the purposeful use of technology in learning.
To support this transition, we are working closely with Mr Corey Bubb in his role within the Teacher Growth Team. He will be collaborating with the faculty to further develop and strengthen our pedagogical practice, ensuring our teaching approaches remain evidence-based and aligned with the expectations of the new syllabus. This professional learning focus will support high-quality instruction and positive outcomes for students across all stages of the Mathematics syllabus.
Class Arrangements
While classes are numbered, many operate as parallel groups rather than being strictly ranked by ability. This provides flexibility in student placement and allows adjustments to be made, where necessary, without disrupting learning or access to appropriate challenge and support.
Year 7
Classes are set as letter groups.
Year 8
8MAT1 & 8MAT2 – Top parallel classes
8MAT3 & 8MAT4 – Parallel
8MAT5 & 8MAT6 – Parallel
8MAT7 & 8MAT8 – Parallel
8MAT9 & 8MAT0 – Smaller parallel classes to better support learning needs
Year 9
9MAT1–9MAT4 – Pathway Challenge (9MAT1 top 27 students; 9MAT2 & 9MAT3 parallel)
9MAT5–9MAT8 – Pathway Bonus (9MAT6 & 9MAT7 parallel)
9MAT9 & 9MAT0 – Pathway All (smaller parallel classes)
Year 10
10MAT1–10MAT4 – Pathway Challenge (10MAT1 top 27 students; 10MAT2 & 10MAT3 parallel)
10MAT5–10MAT7 – Pathway Bonus (10MAT6 & 10MAT7 parallel)
10MAT8 & 10MAT0 – Pathway All (parallel classes, with access to Pathway B content where appropriate in preparation for Stage 6 Mathematics Standard)
Year 11
11MX1_1–11MX1_4 – Mathematics Extension 1 (aligned with 11MAD_1–11MAD_4; 11MX1_1 & 11MX1_2 top parallel)
11MAD_45–11MAD_48 – Mathematics Advanced (11MAD_46 & 11MAD_47 parallel)
11MST_41–11MST_44 – Mathematics Standard (11MST_42 & 11MST_43 parallel)
Year 12
Classes remain as established in Term 4 last year unless students have changed course levels.
Google Classroom
Each teacher maintains a Google Classroom for their individual classes, in addition to a Combined Google Classroom for each course. As a result, students should be enrolled in two Google Classrooms for Mathematics. This structure supports consistent resource sharing, centralised communication and effective preparation for assessment tasks.
Mathspace
This year, we continue to use Mathspace as a key learning and homework platform across multiple year groups. Teachers will regularly assign homework through Mathspace to reinforce classwork, provide targeted practice and support individual progress.
We ask for parent support in ensuring that the Mathspace subscription has been paid and that students are actively using the platform at home. Consistent use of Mathspace makes a significant difference to skill development, confidence and retention of key concepts, particularly when practice occurs outside the classroom.
I am looking forward to another fantastic year working with our Mathematics team and the boys at EBHS. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
