The World’s Greatest Shave is one of Epping Boys’ biggest community fundraising campaigns, run by the Leukaemia Foundation to support individuals and families facing blood cancer through treatment support and accommodation. At Epping Boys, this fundraiser is a school-wide effort across March that brings the community together through Prefect-led events and challenges, raising awareness of the impact of blood cancer while also collecting donations for the Leukaemia Foundation.

This year, the campaign will include activities designed to build momentum and encourage participation across the month, leading into the major shave and colour event on 30 March, with the school aiming to raise $50,000 so every student has a chance to contribute to a shared goal. Supporting the World’s Great Shave means backing a cause that directly helps individuals and their families through some of the toughest periods of their lives. This is exactly why students are encouraged to register, get involved, and fundraise.

The month of March brings about a variety of events to encourage the students to get behind this great cause. Starting in Week 6, the month officially starts with the commencing of the first round of the Balloon Shave Competition on Tuesday, where students attempt to shave shaving cream off a balloon without it popping, with exciting prizes up for grabs. The opening week concludes with a fun trivia on Friday, with more prizes on offer for participants. The second week of March kicks off with our first food event of the month - a bake sale in collaboration with the prefects of Riverside Girls High School. Week 8 brings our second round of the Balloon Shave Competition before an action-packed Friday, with burgers up on offer and the Barber Showdown starring the lineup. The Barber Showdown invites students to express themselves in ways never seen before at Epping Boys - cutting hair. Each competitor brings a mate with them as the test subject, putting not only the winning prize but their mate’s appearance for the rest of the term at stake. Spectators become the judges here, and can vote for their favourite haircut by putting gold coins into each competitor’s pot.

Finally, week 10 brings the final week of World’s Greatest Shave festivities. Monday week 10, the 30th of March, is shave day. Traditionally, our top donors will be shaven by our special guests at the morning assembly, with the rest of our participants getting shaved at lunch. Shave day is one of the most symbolic days on the school calendar, as the hard work and effort of all participants come together in one last celebration of success, a reflection of the awareness fostered throughout the month. To celebrate our progress achievements, we invite students to wear mufti on the 31st of March (without forgetting your gold coin!) We will also be holding a barbecue on the day to cap off what will be an amazing month. The prefects cannot express enough our excitement for this upcoming month, and we hope you’ll engage with and enjoy the month as much as we will.

So, get keen and get involved in the World’s Greatest Shave by cutting, shaving, or colouring your hair to support the Leukaemia Foundation and help Epping Boys make a real impact for people facing blood cancer. To participate, join the Google Classroom code posted in your year group Classroom. Once you join the classroom there is a link to join the Epping Boys High School, World’s Greatest Shave page. If you’re not able to take part that way, you can still get around the event and donate to help us reach our $50,000 goal.
