Careers and Transistion

The Scope of Careers and Transition
Careers and Transition plays a vital role in supporting students to make informed, confident decisions about their future beyond school. A decision that can be years in the making. Rather than expecting students to have all the answers immediately, our focus is on building knowledge of pathways, exploring options, and developing realistic short and medium term goals to achieve long term direction.
Through structured guidance, students are supported to understand the wide range of post-school pathways available, including university study, vocational education and training, apprenticeships, traineeships, employment and workplace learning.
By developing this understanding, students are better equipped to identify directions that align with their interests, strengths, and values.
Careers and Transition support encourages students to focus on achievable next steps, such as subject selection, work experience, skill development, part-time employment, or relevant certifications. This approach reduces uncertainty and anxiety by shifting attention away from long term pressure and towards practical, manageable benchmarks that build confidence and momentum.
I encourage all boys interested in exploring their future to seek out a discussion with our Careers Adviser, Ms Eagle, or myself. We can be found upstairs in the library, at most times within the Careers Office.
Partnering With Parents to Create Meaningful Work Experience Opportunities
One of the most powerful ways we can support young people in preparing for life beyond school is through authentic work experience. Time spent in workplaces allows students to move beyond theory and begin developing the practical skills, attitudes, and confidence required in adult life.
Work experience develops communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in addition to building confidence in professional environments. Students begin to understand workplace expectations such as punctuality, responsibility, and initiative while explore potential career pathways before making important post school decisions. Ultimately work experience empowers students to make informed choices about further education, training, and employment.
The success of our work experience program relies heavily on the support of our parent community. Parents and carers are uniquely placed to help by offering placements within their own workplaces or by connecting the school with colleagues, businesses, or organisations willing to host a student.
Placements do not need to be complex or highly specialised. Short term exposure to everyday workplace operations alone can have a lasting impact on a student’s development.
We invite parents and carers who may be willing to support the work experience program to complete the linked form, detailing potential placement details. This information helps the school match students with appropriate opportunities and ensures all placements meet duty of care and safety requirements.
Completing the form does not commit you to hosting a student immediately. It simply allows us to understand what opportunities may be available within our community.
Together, we can ensure our students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to step successfully into their futures. Thank you for your continued support and for considering how you might contribute to this important program.
If you are interested in supporting a work experience placement please complete the potential placement details via the linked form below.
