Technology and Applied Studies Faculty Update
The TAS Faculty has made an exceptional start to the year, and we are proud to share some exciting updates from across our learning areas.
Head Teacher Update – Welcome Mr White
We are pleased to formally introduce our second Head Teacher TAS, Mr Blake White, who joins the faculty leadership team. Mr White has been at Epping for a number of years already and brings strong curriculum expertise and a passion for practical, project based learning.
Outstanding 2025 HSC Results
We are thrilled to celebrate our outstanding HSC results across all TAS subjects. Our students achieved excellent outcomes in all courses, reflecting their dedication, creativity and technical expertise. These results reflect the consistent effort of our students and the high-quality teaching and mentoring provided by our TAS staff. Congratulations to our Year 12 cohort for their commitment and professionalism throughout their Major Works and Examinations.
Major Works Underway – Year 12
Our 2026 Year 12 students have already settled into their major projects and are heading towards the halfway mark:
- Industrial Technology – Timber and Design and Technology: Major works are well underway, with students refining designs and commencing production.
- Industrial Technology – Graphics & Multimedia: Students are progressing through concept development, modelling, and production stages.
TAS – Year 12
All our other Year 12 classes have hit the ground running with assessments across the board in Engineering, Software Engineering, Enterprise Computing, Food Technology as well as our VET students in Construction and Hospitality displaying their skills across a range of practical and planning tasks.
It is fantastic to see our senior students engaging deeply with their projects and applying industry-standard processes to their work
TAS - Year 11
Our Year 11 students have made an impressive start as they begin their senior school journey within the TAS faculty. Across Engineering Studies, Design Technology, Software Engineering, Enterprise Computing, Industrial Technology and Food Technology, students have already begun engaging with preliminary assessment tasks, research activities and foundational practical projects that set the tone for their HSC pathway.
Our VET students in Construction and Hospitality have also commenced hands-on skill development, applying safe work practices and industry-standard procedures in both workshop and kitchen environments. From workplace safety and project planning to food production and construction techniques, students are building the core competencies that will underpin their studies in Year 12.
It has been outstanding to see our new senior cohort approach their subjects with maturity, curiosity and a strong commitment to quality work. We look forward to watching their skills, confidence and independence grow as they progress through their preliminary courses.
Strong Start Across Years 7-10
Our junior and middle school students have also settled confidently into their practical learning:
- Year 7: Developing foundational workshop drawing skills and building confidence in digital technologies and coding.
- Year 8: Beginning one of my favourite projects, the Folding Timber Stool project while other Year 8 classes are engaging in practical cooking lessons in Food Technology.
- Year 9 Timber: Designing and constructing their step stools.
- Year 10 Timber: Beginning work on their hall table major projects.
- Engineering (Years 9 & 10): Students are designing and constructing tower and bridge structures, applying principles of force, stability and structural efficiency.
- Computing (Year 9 & 10): Students are exploring web design and mechatronics, developing both software and hardware problem-solving skills.
- Graphics (Year 9 & 10): Year 9 students are being introduced to drawing fundamentals, while Year 10 students are progressing into animation and digital design.
- Multimedia (Years 9 &10):
- Food Technology: Students have been introduced to Kitchen Safety and food safety. All classes have successfully worked through their first practical cooking classes.
Across all classes, students have demonstrated focus, responsibility and enthusiasm as they move into hands-on practical work.
Looking Ahead
With practical projects ramping up across every year group, the workshops and computer labs are full of activity. We are looking forward to the many exciting builds, designs, prototypes and digital products that will take shape throughout the year.
The TAS Faculty is proud to provide students with authentic, hands-on learning experiences that build technical skill, creativity and problem-solving capability — preparing them for future pathways in industry, trades, design and technology.
We look forward to sharing more of our students’ outstanding work with the school community in the coming months.

The unit strengthens logical thinking, creativity and practical coding skills through hands-on game production.
Skills Learned:
- Event sheet programming
- JavaScript coding fundamentals
- Sprite sheet animation
- Level design and navigation
Year 11: Industry Study and Documentary Short Film Production
In Year 11, students undertake an Industry Study focused on researching a film production company while creating a short documentary-style project. Using Adobe After Effects, students develop advanced post-production skills, including film editing, transitions, special effects, motion graphics and audio editing. The unit also emphasises pre-production planning, storyboarding, cinematography and an understanding of industry workflows. Through this project, students gain practical insight into the media industry while refining their technical, creative and collaborative production skills.
Skills Learned:
- Film editing and transitions
- Visual effects and motion graphics
- Audio editing and sound design
- Pre-production planning and storyboarding
