Athletics Carnival

Earlier this term, Melbourne Girls’ College held its annual Athletics Day at Collingwood Athletics Track, and it was a fantastic success. With perfect weather and a record number of students attending and participating, the day was filled with energy, enthusiasm and outstanding school spirit.

This year’s theme, “Blast from the Past”, saw both students and staff embracing the occasion with creative and impressive costumes throughout the day. Alongside the traditional track and field events, students also enjoyed a range of novelty activities including longest kick, golf challenges, tug of war and sack races. These events proved extremely popular and gave students even more opportunities to contribute valuable points to their House.

We would like to congratulate our 2026 Age Group Champions:

  • 12–13 Years: Chloe McGilton

  • 14 Years: Beatrix Macgregor

  • 15 Years: Kalie Walkley

  • 16 Years: Annabel White

  • 17 Years: Zoe Tucker

  • 18–20 Years: Nova Karikari

Congratulations also to Milana and Octavia Farfaglia for breaking school records in the 1500m event. Milana broke the 12–13 Years record with an impressive time of 5 minutes and 6 seconds, while Octavia broke the 15 Years record with a time of 5 minutes and 13 seconds.

At the conclusion of the day, Maris House emerged as the overall champions for 2026. Final House point standings were:

  1. Maris – 1133

  2. Melba – 1030

  3. Chisholm – 892

  4. Lyons – 884

Congratulations to Maris House on their victory!

The day was a tremendous success and would not have been possible without the support and dedication of our staff, particularly the HAPE team, for all their hard work in organising and planning such an enjoyable and successful event.

Not long after our MGC Athletics Carnival, a strong squad of over 40 students qualified for and represented Melbourne Girls’ College at the Inner North Division Athletics Carnival.

Our students competed with great determination, sportsmanship and school pride throughout the day, with many outstanding performances across both track and field events. Most importantly, a large number of students successfully qualified for the next Regional round to be held in Term 3, a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work and commitment of our athletes.

Congratulations to all students who competed and represented the College so positively. We are incredibly proud of your efforts and look forward to seeing you compete again at the Regional level later this year.
