Principal's Report

It has been a busy start to Term 2, with events such as the Year 10 Camp, whole-school Athletics Carnival, AAFC Sectional Challenge Camp and Aerobics competitions, to name a few.
On Tuesday 28 April, we saw a crowd of more than 700 join us for our Open Night. The atmosphere across the school was electric. Prospective Year 7 families arrived eager to discover what sets MGC apart, and I am confident they left with no shortage of reasons to be excited. Thank you to all staff and students who participated in this event.
Careers Week set the ideal stage for this year’s Student Leadership Conference, held on Wednesday 13 May under the theme “Own Your Future”. The event was driven by our Senior School Executive, with School Captains Nova, Annie and Anna at the helm.
Roughly 85 student leaders travelled from schools right across Melbourne, from Scotch College to Pascoe Vale Girls College, Korowa Anglican Girls’ School and Haileybury, to name a few. They tackled leadership scenarios together, traded ideas about the initiatives they are hoping to launch this year, and heard alumni speak frankly about their own paths as leaders. Watching our students forge these connections with peers from so many different schools was a real joy, and Nova, Annie and Anna deserve every bit of credit for orchestrating the day so smoothly.
Our Year 8 students have started the Learn to Row program. We hope they are enjoying this unique opportunity at MGC and are managing the early morning sessions. We also gathered recently for Rowing Presentation Night, a wonderful celebration of the commitment, grit and accomplishments of our rowers and the families who stand behind them.
Our recent Dance Night was, once again, a spectacular affair. Well done to all the students, staff and coaches who made it happen. Your talent and dedication were on full display. The passion you bring to performance and creative expression is a constant source of inspiration.
This week we observe National Reconciliation Week, an invitation for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to consider the part each of us can play in advancing reconciliation. At MGC, we renew our commitment to truth-telling, to deepening our understanding of First Nations perspectives, and to nurturing a culture grounded in respect, inclusion and meaningful action.
I am enormously grateful to our MGC Parents’ Association for putting on two sucessful events this term: our annual Mother’s Day Breakfast and a Thank You Morning Tea for staff. Gatherings like these, built on connection and appreciation, say everything about the warmth and generosity that runs through our college community.
Lastly, I wanted to provide a brief update on our facilities. The gymnasium toilets are now finished, and refurbishment of the toilets near the café deck has begun. In the VCE Study Centre, the new lift is complete and in service, making the space far more accessible for everyone in our community.
