Year 2

The Year 2 team are now well and truly into the full swing of the school year, and we are incredibly proud of how confidently students are settling into their learning. Routines continue to be a strong focus across the cohort, and it has been wonderful to see students becoming increasingly independent, requiring fewer reminders as these expectations become part of their daily habits.
Students have also enjoyed their transition to the 2/3 playground, embracing the new space and opportunities to play with confidence. Many students have been making positive use of the wellbeing room during breaks as a calm and supportive space when needed. It has been a positive and settled start to the term, and we look forward to the continued growth of our learners.

-to plan and write a persuasive reason to support an opinion.
In Mathematics we are learning:

-to record our work with pride and care.
In Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) we are learning:
-to use partnership skills when working collaboratively and to show kindness while noticing how our actions make others feel.
Inquiry
In Term 1, students will participate in the inquiry unit Rise and Try, developing resilience, teamwork skills and positive approaches to learning.
In week four and five of this unit we are learning:
-how our personal strengths help us contribute to a group project.
-to use teamwork, problem-solving and persistence when undertaking a group task.
-to reflect on how well our group worked together to achieve a common goal.
Continuous Reporting in Year 2
Our second Learning Task for Ongoing Reporting will be available on Compass from Friday 20th February. In this task, students demonstrated their understanding of place value, working with numbers in ranges suited to their confidence and readiness, including 0–20, 0–30 and three-digit numbers. We encourage families to access Compass to view the task and see their child’s current understanding of whole numbers.
Hillsmeade Heroes

Take Home Readers
Take home readers begin next week. More information will be sent home by your child's classroom teacher.
Just 10–15 minutes of reading each night makes a meaningful difference to your child's education. Aside from your child reading to you, reading can also include shared reading or you reading aloud — all support learning!
