Year 1 Update

Over the last two weeks, our focus has been on building strong rigour and routines with students, within the English block and Maths Daily Reviews. We are also providing frequent opportunities for students to respond within lessons through mini-whiteboards and partner sharing.
Our Learning - Weeks 4 & 5
In English, students will: -review Stage 6 digraphs - ch, tch, th -read, spell and write one and two syllable ch, tch, th words. -revise Stage 5 words with blends - CCVC (consonant, consonant, vowel, consonant). -make story predictions using picture clues and their own ideas. -retell stories focusing on the beginning, middle and end and use sequencing language. -explore characters and their emotions, interactions, growth and friendships. -understand and identify naming words (nouns), doing words (verbs) and adjectives (describing words) in texts and use them in a sentence. -include capital letters and full stops in sentences. -use question marks for question sentences and exclamation marks for surprise or emotion. -practise handwriting of lower-case tall stick letters b, d, f, h, k, l.

In Mathematics, students will: -count up to 120 using the 1s pattern. -count by 1s starting from any number to 120. -say the name of each tens number when counting by 1s and 10s. -practise forming numbers correctly. -build number fluency through Ninja Number Sliders.

In Inquiry students will: -learn how traditions, routines, and shared experiences connect us to our families. -share a tradition or routine their family does and describe how this helps them feel part of their family. -listen carefully to understand different perspectives.

In S.E.L (Social, Emotional, Learning), students will: -identify emotions that others may be feeling. -make suggestions about how people might feel when others exclude them from play. -suggest ways to help classmates play well together. |
News and Reminders:
- Please make sure your child brings along their school hat each day. Children without a hat will spend recess and lunch playing in shaded areas or in the Wellbeing Room.
- If your child still has their blue reader bag at home, we’d appreciate it being sent into the classroom so they’re ready when take‑home reading begins soon.
- Library borrowing has started so please remember to send your child’s library bag to school on their scheduled library day.
