Building Language Leaders: Learning Chinese Together 培养中文语言领袖: 大家一起学中文

Our Language (Chinese) program was delighted to host a Building Language Leaders incursion on 10th September, delivered in collaboration with Languages Teachers Victoria. The event brought together 25 Year 5&6 Language Leaders and 50 Year 2 students for an engaging,interactive language-learning experience.

The session began with students revising the Chinese numbers 0-10 (零到十, líng dào shí). They then put their acquired language skills into practice through exciting domino games, encouraging communication, teamwork and friendly competition.

Students also learned five simple Chinese phrases that they could use while playing a game. This provides an authentic opportunity for students to practise listening and speaking in Chinese while having fun with their peers.

A highlight of the incursion was the Language Passport activity. Year 5&6 Language Leaders partnered with Year 2 students as buddies to complete their Language Passport booklets. Through this buddy-learning experience, older students supported younger learners, demonstrating leadership, encouragement and positive communication.

It was also wonderful to see our students build confidence in Chinese, develop leadership skills and share their enjoyment of language learning. Overall, feedback from both teachers and students was very positive, and I was impressed by how they learned from and supported each other throughout the incursion.  A big thank you to Languages Teachers Victoria, our Language Leaders and all participating students for making this incursion such a memorable and successful event!
