Home Group Report

Gabi Dumesny

This term, both our Junior and Senior students are taking part in meaningful and hands-on Homegroup programs that develop real-world skills and student voice.

Junior School (Years 7–9): Legacy Projects

Junior students are working in pairs to develop and pitch ideas for a Legacy Project; small, achievable initiatives designed to make a lasting impact at school, in the community, or across Australia.

Each year level has a focus:

  • Year 7 – Our School (e.g. positive affirmations in classrooms, decorating shared spaces)

  • Year 8 – Our Community (e.g. letters to aged care homes, collecting for local charities)

  • Year 9 – Our Nation (e.g. upcycling events, writing to MPs, national fundraising)

Each class will vote on one project in their class to pitch to Leadership in Week 7. One winning class per year level will bring their idea to life in the final two weeks of term.

Senior School (Years 10-12): Real World Preparation

Senior students are completing a program designed to prepare them for life beyond school. Each week features three short sessions, covering topics like:

  • Self-care and wellbeing

  • What life is like after school (TAFE, uni, gap years)

  • Budgeting, renting and bills

  • Life admin and independence (e.g. voting, booking appointments)

  • Reflecting on the future

Students complete practical tasks like designing a wellness plan, writing letters to their future selves, and creating a budget.

These Homegroup programs are designed to be engaging, practical, and empowering, helping students grow as confident, thoughtful young people.

A big thank you to our Homegroup teachers for guiding students through this work!
