Year 10 Camp: A City Adventure for building Confidence and Connection
What an unforgettable experience our year 10 students had at this year's Melbourne City CYC Camp! Aimed at boosting student confidence in navigating the city, the action-packed itinerary had them exploring Melbourne by foot and public transport, learning more about their surroundings, and having a blast with their friends.
The journey kicked off with a visit to Skydeck, where students got a bird’s-eye view of the city’s skyline. From there, the adventure only got more exciting! Teams competed in an Amazing Race through Melbourne, visiting iconic spots like the Shrine of Remembrance, Parliament House, the Botanic Gardens, the State Library, and the famous Hosier Lane. Each team worked together to find the locations, collect evidence for bonus points and gained a deeper appreciation for the city's landmarks.
After such an active day, the students relaxed with a cozy movie night at the accommodation — a perfect way to unwind after all the excitement!
The next day was filled with educational visits to some of Melbourne's key institutions. Students explored the Holocaust Museum, where they learned about history and resilience, followed by informative tours at several post-compulsory pathway locations: William Angliss Institute, Victoria University, Melbourne University, and the Academy of Interactive Entertainment. These visits gave students a valuable glimpse into future educational opportunities.
After all that learning, it was time for some fun! The group spent the afternoon shopping at Melbourne Central, indulging in some retail therapy before heading to the bowling alley for a lively evening of friendly competition.
On the final day of the camp, the students visited the Melbourne Aquarium, where they were captivated by marine life and the wonders of the deep sea. Then, it was time for the journey home, with students traveling by train — completing the full circle of their city exploration.
Throughout the camp, students not only developed practical skills in navigating Melbourne but also built lasting memories and strengthened their teamwork. It was an experience full of adventure, laughter, and learning.
A huge thank you to all the teachers and staff who made this trip possible, and to the students for their enthusiasm and energy. Well done, everyone!
