Year 7 Begin Their Journey into Nutrition

Our Year 7 students have recently begun an exciting new Health unit focused on Nutrition.

This unit aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their diet and lifestyle.

Throughout the unit, students will explore key nutritional concepts such as the function of different nutrients including carbohydrates, fats, protein, sodium and vitamins, and identify foods that provide these essential components. They will also examine what nutrition is and why it matters, with a strong emphasis on understanding how the body uses food for energy, growth and repair.

In addition to learning about nutrients, students will gain a deeper understanding of the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, the five food groups, and how to use tools such as the Health Star Rating system to compare the nutritional value of packaged foods. A major focus will be on reading and interpreting food labels, empowering students to make healthy food choices both at home and at school.

This unit supports our broader goal of fostering lifelong healthy habits in our students. We look forward to seeing their learning in action as they become more confident and conscious consumers!
