What a busy time in the Pathways office!
2026 Senior Subject Information Nights
Last week we held our 2026 Year 10 & 11 Senior Subject Information Nights & Expo. This gave Parents/Carers and Students the opportunity to gather important information around heading into Senior pathways in 2026 and beyond.
We showcased all Woodmans Hill Secondary College Key Learning Areas: English, Humanities, Maths, Science, Arts & Technology & Health and PE. Parents/Carers and Students had the opportunity to gather more information around 2026 subject offerings and what would help outline their future pathways. We also had a number of external providers in attendance to connect with our school community: McCallum, Are-able, Fed Uni, ACU, Platinum Institute and Highlands LLEN VET Cluster.
2026 Course Confirmation Appointments
In week 3 & 4 this term, our current Year 9 & 10 students are required to attend their Course Confirmation appointment.
Thursday 7th August - 2026 Year 11 Course Confirmation (No Year 10 Classes)
Wednesday 13th August - 2026 Year 10 Course Confirmation (No Year 9 Classes)
Please be aware that there will be no scheduled classes for students on their allocated day. Students are only required to attend school for their booked appointment time.
Parents/Carers are required to book appointments through Compass via Conferences.
Whilst it is mandatory that students attend their Course Confirmation, we strongly encourage Parents/Carers to attend along with their students as it is an important step to finalising Senior Pathways but understand this might not be possible for some, students are still required to attend on their own.
If you require assistance with any Course Confirmation or Senior Subject pathways information please feel free to email hayley.cook3@education.vic.gov.au or phone 5336 7264 and ask for the Pathways Office.
Year 10 Work Experience
At the end of Term 2 our Year 10 students successfully completed their Work Experience placements. Our employers offered glowing reports for our students from the conduct, commitment and enthusiasm shown whilst on placement.
Students equally, raved about their placements once back at school, with some students gaining further confirmation around the industry they would like to work in, whilst some students discovered they still have many more industries to explore.
Morrisby Interviews
This week we have had our Year 9 Morrisby "Unpacking" interviews. Following Year 9 students completing their Morrisby profiling in Term 2, we welcome our Morrisby Interviewers to the school to have one on one conversations with each Year 9 Student to unpack their results and further discuss their pathway options. This is a important and valuable step in the Morrisby program, make sure you check in with your Year 9 Student to discuss their interview.
Health Exploration Day Federation University Excursion
On Tuesday 22nd July, 25 students from Years 9, 10 and 11 recently attended a Health Exploration Day at Federation University. The day was a great opportunity to not only explore different careers in the health field, but also to network with health professionals and students from other Ballarat secondary schools. Students got to experience and learn about social work, podiatry, exercise physiology, nursing, midwifery and speech pathology to name a few.
Several students who attended this day have already expressed interest in applying to Grampians Health for Work Experience in 2026.
Year 9 ACU Travel Training Excursion
Year 9 Students visited the Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Ballarat for the World of Work program.
This was a full day excursion that also involved student travel training – navigating our transport route and catching public buses there and back. At ACU, students were given a tour of the campus, learnt about work, university and other further education and career pathways, and participated in activities that involve employability skills such as communication and teamwork.
Student Reflections on their ACU experience:
“I’m definitely applying. It was amazing” – Max
“It was very interesting and I learnt a bunch” – Callum
“I loved how it has opened up future pathways” – Leela
“It was very eye-opening” – Hugh and Nadine
“I loved learning about what can be studied at ACU and how flexible the schedule is”–Will
