Tech vs Learning: Year 7 debaters show their skills

On Wednesday 23 October, our Year 7 debating team took part in round 3 of the Junior Speaking Program run by the Debating Association of Victoria. The evening event, held at Coburg High School, included a seminar on rebuttal skills before the debate.

The topic of the night was “That technology has been harmful to learning”. Our team – Uma Nallaratnam, Charlie Chehade and Tessa Hosking were up against Santa Maria College. It was a close debate, with Santa Maria winning by a point, but NHS’s Uma taking out best speaker with 76 points.  The team was well supported by fellow Year 7 debating team members Nelleke Mathews, Arul Whiting, Sophie Hosking and Oscar Sharp.

The team are looking forward to the final round on 20 November  – hopefully with a win this time, too!
