Year 8 Hockey

Year 8 Boys / Mixed Regional Cricket

With several of our star players unavailable we visited Donath reserve with only eight players. Our boys weren’t daunted by their squad size and still played to win. Our squad of Fergus Alm, Anton Alviano, Finn Crouwel, Mitchell Eddy, Marlow Lucas, William Smith, Louis Spencer and Daniel Thomas were all great contributors whether bowling, batting or fielding. Highlights included Will Doyle of Year 12 coaching the squad, his encouragement, suggestions and umpiring on the day was much appreciated. Anton Alviano was our best batter scoring 40 runs in his two innings. William and Daniel took 3 wickets each when bowling.

Although we lost to Hume by 40 runs in our first game we came out in our second game still determined to win - which we did, chasing down Hazel Glens score with 2 overs to spare.

Year 9/10 Regional Basketball

Last week the Intermediate boys basketball team made their way to Coburg Stadium for the Regional competition. The day was full of energy and plenty of 3 pointers, with the boys winning one game, but losing two. Spencer and Charlie definitely stepped up for these games, showing great sportsmanship and talent during the day. Well done team!

State Athletics

On October 21 we had 10 students compete in the State Athletics Championships at Albert Park with some stand out performances.

Wolfgang Curry had a fantastic day competing in 6 Events. Of those events, he came 1st in the 400m, 3rd in the 200mts and triple jump, 5th in the100mts and Long Jump. Wolfgang also ran the 4th leg of the 15 Boys relay with team members Dexton Chewube, Zander Italiano and Finn Stevenson.

Thomas Follis Kirby also had success in his events, coming 1st in the 200mts and 2nd in the the 100mts.

Also competing on the day was Ben Hogkinson who came 4th in the Javelin and our 12-13 boys relay team consisting of Alex Davie, Harry Hibdige, Flynn Lim Thorne, and Josh Martin.

Congratulations to all of our State Athletes, to get to this level of competition is an amazing achievement.  I am sure they will continue their success throughout their years at NHS.

Year 8 Regional Table Tennis

Our year 8 teams recently represented the school at Regional table tennis. Our girls team played incredibly well, winning 2 out of the 3 matches. All players played very well in singles, and their teamwork in doubles was fantastic. A special shout out to Kate, our number 1 seed, for getting great results against the best players from opposition schools.

Our boys team started very strong, with all players winning every game they played. This led the boys to the final, where they faced a very talented Sirius College. After being all square after the singles matches, our doubles pairings showed incredible teamwork and got us the win. Congratulations to Henry, Dougal, Bill and Asher. Looking forward to state finals!

Year 8 and Intermediate Futsal

We recently had our  Intermediate and Year 8 Teams compete in their respective year level Futsal Competitions at Narrandjeri Stadium.  Well done to all teams who competed on these fast-paced days, all teams played extremely well, but unfortunately no teams made it to the final. It was a fun day for all involved.  Thank you to our student coaches  Jack Cuteri and Jay Ryan who helped out with the Year 8s.

Year 8 Regional Hockey

On 25 October the Year 8 hockey teams made their way to Greensborough Hockey Club for regionals. The girls started strong, with some great long passes and defense against the other schools. They came home with 1 win out of their 4 games, but enjoyed both the rain and sunshine throughout the day. Luci and Jaci were some of the MVPs on the field, as well as Finlay! Well done girls!

The Year 8 boys team were able to come away with 2 wins out of their 4 games. Orion spent the day blocking goals, while Atticus, Malachi and Ethan ran laps around the other schools and the team showed some great talent throughout the day. Well done boys!
