Dear Saltwater Families,

Welcome to Week Six of Term Three. We’ve officially passed the halfway point of the term, and it’s hard to believe how quickly the weeks are flying by! We would like to thank our families for their continued support, and acknowledge our dedicated staff for their ongoing hard work in making Saltwater P–9 College such a wonderful place to learn and grow. Read on to see some of the exciting things that have taken place in our school over the past fortnight, and some of the exciting things ahead!

Science Week Highlights

Last week, we celebrated Science Week, and it was a fantastic opportunity for students and staff to explore, discover and celebrate the wonder of science. Students enjoyed a range of engaging and creative activities that brought scientific ideas to life.

The photos below capture our wonderful Science teachers in action at one of our assemblies, where they entertained and inspired students with a series of exciting live experiments. Their enthusiasm and energy made science come alive for everyone!

Celebrate Book Week 2026: A Symphony of Stories (August 22–28)

Saltwater College is excited to join the nationwide celebration of Book Week from August 22 to August 28! This year's inspiring theme is "Symphony of Stories." 

The Big Event: Dress-Up Parade Day

Mark your calendars for Friday, August 28, when every year level will take part in our annual Book Week parade! 

• Costume Inspiration: Students are invited to dress up to match this year's theme or come as their favourite book character. 

• Keep It Simple: There is no need to purchase expensive retail outfits. Creative, homemade, or recycled costumes made from everyday household materials are highly encouraged. 

• Comfort First: Please ensure outfits are comfortable for a full school day and avoid any fragile items. 

Exciting Book Week Activities

Throughout the week, our students will be immersed in the joy of literature through two main initiatives: 

• Special Library Read-Alouds: Students will have the opportunity to attend scheduled library visits to hear a curated selection of shortlisted Book Week titles read aloud by teachers and guest presenters. 

• Creative Classroom Workshops: Teachers have designed interactive, book-focused lessons to extend the reading experience. Students will engage in character-inspired artwork, story mapping, creative writing challenges, and collaborative storytelling sessions.

We deeply appreciate your family's support in making Book Week a success, and we can't wait to see our students' imagination and enthusiasm come to life across the college! 

Book Fair

This year the 2026 Book Fair will run from Monday, 05 October to Friday, 09 October 2026. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore a diverse selection of books and immerse themselves in the joy of reading. Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to attend the Book Fair with their class to either purchase items or create a wish list of books they may want to purchase. The Book Fair will be held in the staffroom and will also be open before school from 8:00am and after school until 4:00pm.

We are seeking a few parent volunteers to support the running of the Book Fair during school times each day. If you are interested, please email the office.

Planning for 2027

It's that time of year when the leadership team begin working through 2027 planning, class structures and our recruitment process. As we continue the planning process for 2027, we would appreciate parents notifying the school if your child/ren will not be returning to our school in 2027, as soon as possible, by contacting the school office on 8366 7700.

ICAS

Congratulations to all the Year 2-9 students who have taken part in ICAS testing so far this term. It has been fantastic to see so many students challenge themselves and approach each assessment with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. Your effort and commitment have been wonderful to watch.

After this week, we have just one more week of ICAS testing to go, with Mathematics to be conducted next week in Week 7. We wish all participating students the very best as they prepare for their final assessment. Keep up the great work!

Prep Enrolments – Reminder 

Throughout Term Two, we conducted Friday morning school tours for prospective Prep families. We would like to kindly remind our current families to submit enrolment forms for any children starting Prep in 2027 as soon as possible.

Enrolment forms are available on the school website. Letters of enrolment offers have already been sent, and a second round of offers will be issued in mid-August. To secure your child’s place, please ensure all enrolments are finalised prior to this date.

We are very excited to welcome our new Prep students and their families into our Saltwater community. Details about the Prep Transition program will be shared with families in September.

Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey (PCGS).

Recently, a random selection of families received correspondence regarding the Department’s annual Parent/ Caregiver/ Guardian Opinion Survey (PCGS). 

The feedback collected through the PCGS is extremely valuable as it helps:

• measure parent satisfaction with our school programs and communication

• identify areas of strength, such as supportive teachers or wellbeing programs

• highlight areas for improvement, including where we can enhance student engagement and the learning experience

• inform whole-school planning for the following year.

The survey results are reviewed by school leadership and staff, and they directly shape future planning, initiatives, and resource allocation. Thank you in advance to our families for your time and contribution in helping our school continue to improve.

Uniform Expectations Reminder

We've observed that a few students haven't been adhering to the complete school uniform policy. Teachers have been gently reminding students to consistently wear their uniforms. All students are required to be in their academic uniform, unless they have PE or dance classes, on which days they are permitted to wear their sports attire. Additionally, Fridays are designated as Sport Uniform Days. We would appreciate your support and cooperation in upholding our uniform policy.
