Year 7, 8 and 9 Physical Education
Our Secondary Physical Education program at Saltwater College continues to provide students with a wide range of opportunities to be active and develop new skills.
This term, students are participating in softball, ultimate frisbee, lawn bowls and beach volleyball.
Lawn bowls is being led by experienced staff from the Altona Lawn Bowls Club, who are teaching our students the skills, techniques and rules of the sport at the Saltwater College Football Reserve. Students are enjoying the opportunity to learn from experienced coaches.
Throughout the term, students have been focusing on developing their skills while being encouraged to challenge themselves and try new activities.
Our beach volleyball sessions at Altona Beach have given students the opportunity to enjoy Physical Education in a different environment while developing their volleyball skills and working collaboratively with their peers.
We are enjoying an exciting and active term in Secondary Physical Education!
Year 7, 8 and 9 Athletics Carnival
Our Secondary Athletics Carnival on Thursday the 6th August was a fantastic success! Students were dressed in their house colours and enjoyed a wonderful day of competition and participation at the VU Athletics Track in Werribee.
Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to compete in a range of track and field events, including the 100m, 200m, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus and triple jump. Students demonstrated great effort and sportsmanship as they challenged themselves and supported their teams.
It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved, encouraging others and giving each event their best. We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented their Age groups and Houses.
A huge congratulations to all students who competed and contributed to making the day such a successful event!
Hobsons Bay Division Athletics Team, 2026

Year 9 Table Tennis Interschool Competition
On Tuesday 11 August, our Year 9 students represented Saltwater College at the Year 9 Table Tennis Interschool Competition at Altona North Bayside College. We also had two Year 8 students represent the Year 9 team whch was fantastic!
It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to compete against other schools, demonstrate their table tennis skills and put into practice the techniques and strategies they have been developing in their Enrichment classes

Year 7, 8 and 9 Coaching Experience Day at Eagles Stadium
Our Year 7, 8 and 9 students recently had the fantastic opportunity to take part in a Table Tennis Coaching Experience Day at Werribee Eagles Stadium.
Students were able to develop their table tennis skills through a range of fun and engaging coaching activities. They worked on their forehand and backhand strokes, serving, footwork and ball control, while also learning more about game tactics and strategies.
It was wonderful to see our students getting involved, challenging themselves and showing great sportsmanship throughout the day. The experience provided students with a great opportunity to learn from experienced coaches while enjoying the challenge and excitement of table tennis.
A big thank you to Werribee Eagles Stadium and the coaches for providing such a valuable and enjoyable experience for our students!
Year 8 Table Tennis Competition Interschool Sports Competition
Congratulations to our Year 8 boys and girls who represented Saltwater College at the table tennis competition held at Bayside College in Altona North on Thursday, 20 August. We also had two Year 7 girls represent our team. Amazing effort!
The boys achieved an outstanding result, finishing as runners-up.
The girls also performed brilliantly and placed third.
All students demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
They should be extremely proud of their achievements and the positive way they represented our school.

Year 9 Update – A Great Term of Learning
It has been a busy and exciting time for our Year 9 students, who continue to demonstrate their growing independence, confidence and leadership across the College. Students have been involved in a range of learning experiences and activities, and it has been fantastic to see them taking on greater responsibility as senior students of the College.
As we continue through the term, we would like to remind all Year 9 students of the importance of arriving at school on time and being ready to learn. Being punctual helps students start their day positively, avoids missing important instructions and ensures they are prepared for their learning from the beginning of the day.
A reminder also goes out regarding school uniform expectations. Students are expected to wear the correct uniform each day and to ensure that items are worn as intended. In particular, academic uniform should not be worn with tracksuit pants. We appreciate families supporting students to arrive each day in the correct uniform.
The Year 9 students will be hosting another sausage sizzle fundraiser on Friday 28 August. This will coincide with our Book Week Dress-Up Day, making it a great opportunity for students to enjoy the day while supporting the Year 9 Graduation.
Mandarin Chinese
Year 7
Throughout Term 3, our Year 7 students have been developing their Mandarin Chinese skills through our Days, Dates and Time unit. This unit has focused on strengthening students’ numeracy foundations while building their confidence in using Mandarin in everyday situations.
Students have been learning how to ask and respond to questions about the date, day of the week and time, as well as using these skills to talk about important dates in their own lives, including their birthdays. As part of their learning, students have even learnt how to sing the “Happy Birthday” song in Mandarin, using the phrase 祝你生日快乐 (zhù nǐ shēngrì kuàilè).
This unit has provided students with opportunities to practise both their language and numeracy skills, while developing their ability to communicate meaningful information in Mandarin. Students will conclude the unit with a test that will assess the range of skills and knowledge they have developed throughout the term.
Year 8 and 9
Our Year 8 and 9 students have been busy continuing their second year of Mandarin Chinese, completing their 'School Life' unit in Term 3. As part of this unit, students had the opportunity to reflect on and describe their own experiences of a typical school day. They put their Mandarin skills into practice by writing a letter about their school life, written as though it were addressed to a Chinese student of a similar age.
Students have now moved on to our 'Shopping' unit, where they are developing practical Mandarin skills that they can use in everyday situations. They have been learning how to express what they would like to purchase, ask about prices and respond appropriately.
The unit will culminate in a mock shopping speaking task, where students will put their language skills into practice by taking part in a simulated shopping experience in Mandarin. This will give students the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to communicate confidently and use the language they have learnt in a realistic context.
