Year Four
The term has been off to a flying start, with our Year 4 students continuing to bring plenty of energy and enthusiasm to their learning. Over the past few weeks, students have taken part in a wide variety of exciting activities, both inside and outside the classroom.
Unit of Inquiry
Students have continued exploring our Central Idea, Exploration reshapes civilisation and influences perspectives, through a range of engaging learning experiences. This has included investigating What Motivates Exploration?, digging into the Cause and Effect of Exploration's Impact on Civilisation, and grappling with the thought-provoking question Discovery or Invasion? through persuasive writing. Students also had the chance to get creative by designing their very own Explorer's Uniform, applying their understanding of what an explorer might need to survive and succeed on their journey.
Reading
Students have been busy continuing their Book Club sessions, meeting with their groups to discuss and dig deeper into their chosen texts. Alongside this, students have been exploring figurative language, learning to identify techniques such as similes, metaphors and personification within their books, and discussing the effect these devices have on the reader.
Writing
In Writing, students have turned their attention to figurative language, exploring how techniques such as similes, metaphors and personification can bring their writing to life. They have been experimenting with these tools in their own pieces, learning how the right figurative language can paint a vivid picture and truly engage the reader.
Mathematics
In Maths, students have been developing their multiplicative thinking, strengthening their understanding of multiplication and division strategies. To put their skills to the test in a fun and hands-on way, students played a range of maths board games, which allowed them to practise their thinking while working collaboratively with their classmates.
Sovereign Hill Camp – Group 2
Following on from Group 1, our Group 2 students have now also had their turn at the two-day, one-night camp at Sovereign Hill! They took part in the same range of hands-on, immersive experiences, getting a real feel for life during the Victorian gold rush era and learning about how people lived, worked and were educated in that period of history. With both groups now having attended, all of our Year 4 students have had the chance to build a wonderful foundation for our Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time (Central Idea: Exploration reshapes civilisation and influences perspectives).
Reminders
Please make sure your child brings a fully charged iPad to school every day.
A labelled water bottle should be brought to school daily.
Hats are not required this term.
We are looking forward to Book Week in week 7 (24th-27). The Book Week parade will be on Friday 27th of August.
Upcoming Science Week in week 8 (31st of Aug - 4th of Sep).
