Glen Education Professional Development Day

Late March, we came together across our entire organisation for a dedicated Professional Development Day - an opportunity to reflect, learn, and grow as one.
Through collaboration, shared knowledge, and a continued commitment to excellence, we are strengthening our practice and ensuring the very best outcomes for the children and families we support.
We began the day with insights from our General Manager of Operations, Pedagogy and Education, Melissa MacMaster, followed by our CEO, Samantha Kolasa, who set the tone for the day ahead.
Our Board Chair, David Willersdorf, then shared our Strategic Plan and the vision guiding our future, followed by Michael Plowright, who spoke to psychosocial safety laws and the importance of creating safe, supportive workplaces for all.
Basil Paul, our Business Systems and Technology Manager, explored emerging technologies and the evolving digital landscape. This was complemented by a powerful session from Pyramid Model Australia, focusing on emotional development and self-regulation, equipping our teams with practical strategies to support children every day.
Our Pedagogy Manager, Janine Bird, reminded us of our purpose and introduced our three guest speakers who outined examples of exemplary practice.
First we were inspired by Jin Yan, ECT at Glen Glover. Jin guided us through the concept of inspiring environments through the lens of children’s rights - reminding us that every space should empower, respect, and respond to each child’s voice. She beautifully captured the essence of this work:
"It’s not about adding more stuff. It’s about adding more possibilities."
Next we heard from Nicole Brunhierl, Artist in Residence at Glen Rowen Street. Nicole provided insight into the power of creating intentional spaces, and the impact this has on a child's learning.
Finally, Nao Ikoma from Glen Caulfield Primary introduced us to the power of art therapy and the way that this can create an avenue to focus on our own wellbeing as educatorours. A beautiful way to finish.
It was a day grounded in connection, reflection, and purpose, as we continue to grow together.
