At our kindergarten, creating a safe, supportive environment for every child is a shared commitment that extends well beyond our program. We believe that keeping children safe is a collective responsibility, one that is strengthened through our close connections with families and our wider school and local community.
We remain committed to creating a kindergarten environment where every child feels safe, respected, and confident to express themselves. We believe that a strong culture of safety is built through trusting relationships, open communication, and a shared commitment between educators, families, and the wider community.
At our kindergarten, this shared responsibility is strengthened through our close connections with our school community and the local area. Working collaboratively within the school helps ensure consistency, familiarity, and a sense of security for children as they move between environments. Our regular visits to local places, such as the supermarket and library, further support children in building confidence and understanding how to navigate their community safely, while recognising trusted spaces and people beyond the kindergarten.
We recognise that families are children’s first and most important teachers. Building authentic partnerships with families not only enriches our learning program but also strengthens the protective network around each child. When children see the important people in their lives welcomed and valued within their learning environment, it fosters a deep sense of belonging, security, and trust.
A key focus of our program is meaningful family involvement. We invite families to share aspects of their culture, religion, occupations, interests, and unique talents. These contributions help broaden children’s understanding of the world while celebrating the diversity within our community. Families have joined us for a variety of meaningful experiences, including cooking activities that celebrate cultural traditions, energetic Zumba sessions, storytelling about exciting adventures, musical experiences, and medical information sessions that support children’s understanding of health and wellbeing.
These shared experiences create valuable opportunities for children to see their families and community members as active contributors to their learning. They also strengthen the connections between educators and families, supporting open communication and collaborative relationships that are essential in maintaining safe environments for children.
We also maintain an open-door approach, encouraging families to spend time within the program and experience kindergarten alongside their child. This helps to deepen relationships, build trust, and ensure that every child feels supported, heard, and protected.
By valuing family voice, engaging with our school and local community, and encouraging active participation, we continue to foster a culture where child safety is understood as a shared responsibility. Together, we are building a protective, connected community, one where children feel safe, valued, and supported to thrive.
At Glen Sacred Heart Kindergarten we have a community tree and we create family books. We believe it takes a village to raise a child, and every child is supported by many important people, pets, places and experiences that help shape who they are. We have already seen how much pride children take in sharing their family books with their peers and educators. These books have become a wonderful way to support a sense of belonging, inclusion and connection within our kindergarten.
