Creating Safe, Inclusive and Supportive Environments

At Glen Brady Road Kindergarten, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our priority. Our daily routines, relationships, and learning environments are intentionally designed to support all children to settle in, in alignment with the Victorian Child Safe Standards.

At the beginning of the year, we follow flexible and predictable daily routines that help children feel secure, comfortable, and confident in their environment. We encourage children to express their needs, ask for help, and communicate their feelings. Self-help routines such as handwashing, applying sunscreen, and toileting are carried out respectfully to ensure children’s privacy is always protected.

Strong, respectful relationships are important in helping children feel safe. In Term 1, our educators have been building positive relationships with children through one-on-one and small group experiences, so children feel comfortable and secure. We model kindness, respect, and inclusion, and encourage children to be kind and caring friends. We also maintain open and respectful communication with families and support them in addressing any concerns, ensuring we work together to support children’s wellbeing and safety at all times.

Our learning spaces are thoughtfully set up to allow active supervision and to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all children. We respect families from diverse cultural backgrounds and value their perspectives. In Term 1, as part of our language program, we set up the home corner with Chinese cultural items to expose children to different cultural experiences. We also held group discussions about Indigenous culture to support children in developing cultural responsiveness. 

In addition, educators regularly check the environment and equipment to ensure it is safe and age-appropriate.

By embedding these practices into everyday experiences, children feel comfortable, safe, valued, and confident in our kindergarten community. We will continue our dedication to supporting every child at Glen Brady Road Kindergarten.
