Creating a Child Safe Culture at Glen Carnegie Kindergarten

At Glen Carnegie Kindergarten, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a culture where children feel safe, supported, and confident to learn and explore. Through our daily routines, respectful relationships, and carefully planned learning environments, we actively uphold the Child Safe Standards and ensure children’s voices are heard and respected. 

Children’s Voices and Participation 

• Educators create opportunities during group times, play experiences, and daily interactions for children to share their ideas, opinions, and feelings. 

• Children are encouraged to make choices about their play, activities, and learning experiences, helping them develop confidence and independence. 

• Educators listen carefully to children’s concerns and support them to identify trusted adults they can approach when they need help. 

Body Safety and Awareness 

• Educators have age-appropriate conversations with children about body safety, personal boundaries, and respecting others. 

• Through stories, discussions, and everyday situations, children learn that their bodies belong to them and that it is okay to speak up if something makes them feel uncomfortable. 

• Children are reminded that they can always seek support from trusted educators or adults. 

Learning Safety in the Community 

• During local walks and excursions, educators talk with children about road safety, such as holding hands, stopping at crossings, and being aware of traffic. 

• Visits to nearby kindergartens and primary schools provide opportunities for children to practise safe behaviours in the community while being closely supervised by educators. 

Safe Learning Environments 

• Educators regularly check indoor and outdoor play spaces to ensure equipment and resources are safe and well maintained. 

• Learning environments are organised so that children can explore freely while educators maintain clear visibility and active supervision. 

• Inclusive environments ensure all children feel respected, welcomed, and supported. 

Emergency Preparedness 

• Our service regularly practises emergency procedures such as evacuations, lockdowns, and lockouts with both educators and children. 

• These practices help everyone become familiar with safety procedures and ensure we can respond calmly and safely if an emergency occurs. 

Partnerships with Families and Community 

• Families are encouraged to be part of our community through working bees, fundraising events, and centre activities. 

• These opportunities help strengthen relationships between educators and families while supporting safe, welcoming environments for children. 

• Working together with families helps us maintain a strong culture of safety and wellbeing. 

Glen education policies and procedures are visible for all families to view including “Glen Education Code of Conduct for Behaviour with Children”, “Glen Education Commitment to Child Safe Environments” and “ Risk communication and minimisation plans.” 

Our practices align with the Child Safe Standards and the National Quality Standard, ensuring that children’s rights, safety, and wellbeing remain at the centre of everything we do. By working together with families and our community, we continue to create a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where every child can feel confident to learn and grow.
