Program Enhancements

Glen Education Program Enhancements
The benefits for children and educational teams.
Glen Education is committed to offering a variety of program enhancement experiences across our 25 kindergartens. This is an opportunity for an external expert to immerse themselves in the curriculum. These “experts" add a specialised level of expertise which will the enhance the quality, value and education of the children in an ongoing capacity. This is ideally throughout an extended period of time, across a term or a year. This facilitates the acquisition of new skills for educational teams who can continue the learnings across the year.
One example is our "Gardener in Residence"
Di Manson.
Di shares an insight into the program she designs at Glen Rowen Street Kindergarten.
In addition to being an educator at Glen Rowen Street Kindergarten I am the "Gardener in Residence".
Along with gardening, I educate the children in sustainability and looking after our environment. Each week I spend 2 hours with the children.
They will learn about plants : what makes them grow, where do they come from, and how to look after them. Together we will learn how to look after our environment: by learning about where our water comes from, how do we keep our water and oceans clean, and why we aim to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Together we will plant seeds and seedlings to make our garden even greener. The children also are able to eat the vegies and fruit that we grow together.
This program meets with our Glen Rowen Street curriculum goals, especially the following ones:
Empower children to respect and care for themselves, others and their environment, by being an active member of the kindergarten community and wider world.
Supporting the children to contribute to a sustainable world, through a deeper understanding of environmental, social and economic factors, which seek to meet the needs of the present generations without compromising the needs of future generations.
