From the Year Prep Classroom

It’s hard to believe that we are already in the final two weeks of term! And what a busy couple of weeks they are going to be! We have our Athletics Carnival this Thursday, our Beechworth excursion next Thursday, R U OK? Day activities on Friday, and Footy Colours Day on the last day of term. Phew! We’re exhausted just writing about it!
Thank you to all the families who took the time to attend Parent-Teacher Interviews last week and discuss their child’s individual progress. It is always wonderful to celebrate the learning that has taken place while also setting goals for the remainder of the year.
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been busy learning lots of exciting new digraphs (two letters that work together to make one sound). Recently, we have learnt th, as in thumb. We like to call this our cheeky ‘th’ sound because we stick our tongue out when we say it! We have also been learning both oo sounds, as heard in book and boot. It has been wonderful to see the children listening carefully and applying these new sounds in their reading and writing. To finish the term, we will be learning the ng sound, as heard at the end of swing.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have moved on to learning about sharing equally. We will continue exploring this concept for the remainder of the term. At home, you might like to encourage your child to practice sharing items equally, for example, sharing toys, food, or other objects between family members.
Inquiry – Then and Now
To wrap up our Inquiry unit on Then and Now, we are looking forward to our upcoming excursion to Beechworth on Thursday 17th of September leaving at 9am sharp and returning around 3pm. Students will explore the historical precinct through a guided walk, visit the Communications Centre to learn about how communication has changed over time, and discover how Granny lived in the past. We will also explore how completing household chores and everyday tasks has changed over time. Please make sure they bring a hat, plenty of food to eat, as well as plenty of water for the day in their school bag.
A reminder that there will be no lunch orders on excursion day, and students are required to wear their sports uniform.
As we approach the end of Term 3, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Foundation families a wonderful break. We hope everyone has a safe, relaxing and restful holiday and returns refreshed and ready for Term 4; which is always notoriously busy, but lots of fun! We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 5th October.
A reminder that school will finish early at 2:15 pm on the last day of term, Friday 18th of September.
Thank you for another wonderful term!
