From the Year 2 Classroom

What a busy and fabulous two weeks we have had in Year 2! Our Book Week Parade and Father’s Day Liturgy made for a very memorable fortnight.
We were super impressed with all the wonderful Book Week costumes and were very appreciative of all the fathers, grandfathers and father-like figures in our lives who came along to celebrate Father’s Day with us. We hope you all had a fabulous day!
Congratulations to Emmalee Chitty, Charlie Cooper and Arlo Beasley, who were our lucky Book Week Award winners!
A big thank you to all the parents who attended a Learning Conversation last week. We really appreciate your ongoing support and partnership in your child’s learning.
This week, we are looking forward to Athletics Day on Thursday and R U OK? Day on Friday. On Thursday, students can wear their house colours, and on Friday, they are invited to wear a touch of yellow.
Just a reminder that ALL students are expected to wear a hat at school. These need to be clearly labelled with your child’s name. They can be purchased from Judds for $10.
Events Next Week
We have an exciting week ahead in Year 2!
Wednesday 16th September – Excursion to Twisted Science
We are super excited to be heading off on our excursion to Twisted Science in Echuca! Please ensure students arrive at school by 8.15am so we are ready to depart on time.
Students will need to bring:
- 🎩 Hat
- 🍎 Recess
- 🥪 Lunch
- 💧 Water bottle
We anticipate arriving back at school at approximately 4.15pm.
Friday 18th September – Footy Colours Day & Last Day of Term 3
To celebrate the final day of Term 3, students can come to school wearing their House Team colours and/or jumpers for Footy Colours Day.
Please note that school will finish early at 2.15pm.
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been exploring the reading strategy Finding the Main Idea and Summarising in Non-Fiction Texts. Students have used three handy hints to help us find the main idea. They are: Title and Picture, First and Last Sentence and Repeated Words.
In Writing, we are learning to write persuasive texts. We are writing our arguments for whether you would rather play inside or outside. We have come up with some fabulous arguments to support both sides.
In Spelling, we have been learning to spell words that have different prefixes and suffixes, as well as words with the /j/ sound at the end. Our tricky words are- favourite, could, should, shouldn’t.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have been learning about the four operations. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. It has been great to challenge our mathematical thinking as we have been doing operations with worded problems.
Religion
In Religion, we have continued to learn about God’s Creation and how we can care for it. We have been collecting natural objects in nature and making collages with them.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, we have been learning about Lake Mulwala, the Weir Bridge and continuing to expand our knowledge about Yarrawonga.
Thank you for your ongoing support. We hope you all have a lovely break and enjoy the holidays. We look forward to seeing everyone back for a fun-filled Term 4!
