From the Year 4 Classroom
We have finally reached the last couple of weeks of the term. What a busy and successful term of learning it has been! Students should feel incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and the progress they have made.
With a few more exciting activities still to come in the coming days, there is plenty to look forward to before the term ends. We would like to thank everyone for their hard work and support throughout the term.
We wish all students and families a safe, happy, and relaxing holiday break.
Literacy:
We are wrapping up our class novel, The Wild Robot, which has been another class favourite this term. Students have thoroughly enjoyed following Roz's journey and engaging in thoughtful discussions about the story.
We are looking forward to watching the movie adaptation during the final week of term and comparing it with the novel. During writing sessions this week, students will also be completing their persuasive letters, showcasing the skills they have developed throughout the unit.
Numeracy
Over the final two weeks of term, we are revisiting and consolidating key numeracy concepts to strengthen students' understanding and confidence.
A huge congratulations to all students for their effort and persistence in improving their times table fluency. We have seen some fantastic progress, with many students achieving personal bests and beating their previous times. We are very proud of their hard work and growth!
Inquiry
As you may have seen on Facebook, we recently acted out the process of introducing a bill into Parliament and turning it into a law. Students thoroughly enjoyed role-playing the different politicians involved in debating and passing the bill. It was a fantastic way to bring their learning to life and see democracy in action.
Next week, we will wrap up our democracy unit by watching clips that explain how Parliament works, including the Westminster system, from which Australia's democratic system originates. It has been an engaging and interesting unit of work, and students have enjoyed learning about how decisions are made in our country.
R U OK? Day
As part of R U OK? Day, students will learn about the four steps of an R U OK? conversation and watch a short clip demonstrating how to use these strategies in everyday situations. This learning encourages students to look out for one another and build confidence in supporting their friends and family.
Students will bring home an information sheet outlining the four steps, and we encourage families to use this as an opportunity to discuss when and how these strategies can be used to start meaningful conversations.
