From the Year 5 Classroom
Our Year 5 students enjoyed a wonderful and memorable Father's Day Liturgy last week. It was lovely to see families come together to celebrate the important role fathers, grandfathers, and father figures play in our lives. Following the liturgy, students enjoyed returning to their classrooms to complete a special Father's Day activity, creating meaningful keepsakes and sharing messages of appreciation for the special people in their lives.
The excitement continued throughout the term as all Year 5 classes had the opportunity to attend Sacred Heart College for a science lesson in their science laboratories. Students engaged in hands-on learning experiences and enjoyed exploring scientific concepts in a real laboratory setting. We extend our sincere thanks to Sacred Heart College for generously hosting our Year 5 students and providing such an engaging and valuable learning experience.
This Thursday, students will be participating in our annual Athletic Carnival here at Sacred Heart Primary School, we look forward to a day filled with fun, teamwork, sportsmanship, and friendly competition.
This Friday, we will be recognising R U OK? Day and encourage all students to wear a splash of yellow to school, this may be yellow socks, yellow hair ribbons or yellow wrist bands/bracelets.
The term concludes on Friday, 18 September, with our much-anticipated Footy Colours Day. We look forward to seeing everyone dressed in their team colours as we celebrate together and finish the term with plenty of school spirit and fun.
We wish all our families a safe and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to welcoming everyone back for an exciting Term 4.
Literature
As we near the conclusion of The Grandest Bookshop in the World by Amelia Mellor, our Year 5 students have thoroughly enjoyed the journey through this imaginative and captivating novel. Inspired by Melbourne's famous Cole's Book Arcade, the story has immersed students in a world of mystery, adventure, and fascinating historical detail. Throughout the term, the novel has sparked engaging discussions, strengthened comprehension skills, inspired creative writing, and encouraged a deeper appreciation of reading. Students have loved uncovering the many secrets of the story and following the adventures of its memorable characters. We look forward to completing the final chapters together and reflecting on the exciting journey this wonderful book has taken us on.
Last week, as part of our Book Week celebrations, the Year 5 students enjoyed spending time with the Year 1 students, participating in a fun and creative activity together.
A big thank you to the Year 1 students and teachers for hosting us and making the experience so enjoyable.
Reading Diaries
Year 5 students are encouraged to read at home for a minimum of 80 minutes per week. This is to be recorded in their school diary. Diaries are used at school throughout the week, so we ask that rather than taking diaries home, children recorded their reading each morning as part of their daily set up. Diaries will be checked by class teachers each Friday.
Specialist Classes
Year 5 students will continue to participate in Specialist lessons on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. This semester, students have been learning Auslan, during their Tuesday and Wednesday Specialist sessions. It has been wonderful to see them building their communication skills, developing an understanding of inclusive communication.
Students may wear their PE uniform on Thursdays and Fridays.
Learning Support Officer
Our Year 5 Learning Support Officer is Katrina Carpenter who will be working with us from Monday to Thursday.
