From the Year 6 Classroom

With less than two weeks until the holidays, the Year 6 students are making the most of their final weeks of Term 3. It’s hard to believe that after the break they will be heading into their final term of primary school. We are looking forward to finishing the term well and enjoying all that Term 4 has in store.

Literacy

In Literacy, students have continued to immerse themselves in the novel study ‘Can you see me?’ by Libby Scott and Rebecca Wescott, which explores the life of a 11-year-old girl with autism who is navigating the landscape of starting high school. The text has prompted some rich discussion about the text and our own lives.

Maths

Our Year 6 Maths focus is on multiplying and dividing decimal numbers using powers of 10. Students are developing their understanding of how the decimal point shifts when multiplying or dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000, and applying these skills to solve a range of mathematical problems. We are also focusing on explaining our thinking and choosing efficient strategies to build confidence and accuracy with decimals.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, we are moving towards the end of our unit, on the ‘Systems of Government’ in Australia. The students have explored how government works, the roles of different branches, developed their knowledge on how a new law is made or amended and the importance of democratic values.

Father's Day Liturgy

Last Friday, we celebrated our wonderful dads and special father figures with a beautiful Father’s Day Liturgy and activity. A big thank you to all those who were able to join us and help make the morning so special. We hope all our dads and father figures had a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday and felt very much appreciated and celebrated!
