Year 7 Transition

Year 7 2026

The transition to high school is fast approaching for our future Year 7 students.

I've been busy connecting with families, visiting primary schools, teaching transition lessons, and getting to know the students who will soon join us at FGHS. This term, each of our GLC primary schools has four transition lessons scheduled. These sessions focus on managing change, knowing where and how to access support, and understanding the expectations at FGHS. Students have been actively engaging in these lessons, asking thoughtful questions about high school life, and many have already shared that the sessions are helping them feel more confident and prepared for the move to high school.

Some students have already had the opportunity to meet their Year Adviser, Ms Rachel Baker-Daniels, and others will be meeting her in the next few weeks.

We’re excited to welcome a group of Year 6 students to FGHS on Friday, 29 August for our HUB Transition Day. This special day is designed for students coming from small primary schools or who may be the only one from their school joining us next year.

The day will give these students a chance to connect with others in a similar situation, helping them build friendships before the start of high school. They’ll also spend time with some of our current Year 7 students, who will share their experiences and advice about transitioning to high school.

HPGE Transition Opportunities

There are also a number of additional days organised for HPGE students. These additional days are aimed at students who have been identified by the primary school as being high potential or gifted in one or more of the domains (Physical, Intellectual, Creative, Social Emotional).

These visits will give those students an opportunity to become more familiar with the school environment, the staff, and build connections with like-minded peers. It will also give our staff the opportunity to assess their potential to help inform class placement for next year.

Transition Support

If your child is starting Year 7 at FGHS next year and you haven't yet been contacted by me, but would like to discuss your child's transition to high school, please contact me to organise a meeting.

Transition Feedback

We are always striving to improve our current transition processes and are currently seeking feedback from parents of current and future students. If you have a minute, can you please complete a quick survey?
