"What we know is a drop, hat we don't know is an ocean."  ― Isaac Newton

Term 3 has been a busy term so far in Science. Week 4 saw our celebration of Science Week 2025, and what a week it was! This year's theme was "Decoding the Universe". Firstly, Perform Education put on a wonderful show for our year 7 and 8 students. Based around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), our students were treated to a thought provoking and entertaining show that hopefully encouraged them to think outside the box and consider potential careers in these fields.

Earlier in the year, you may remember that we ran a competition to design a shirt for Science Week that all us Science teachers would wear. Well, we can now announce the winners of that competition! Dakota Stanik and Sophie Bridge of S9, and Bella Woodhouse of 7S created the winning designs that were chosen to go on the shirts. Dakota and Sophie's design graces the front of the shirt and Bella's is on the back. In the photos below, you can see Dakota modelling the shirt. We in Science think they look great!

Also during Science Week, we held a scavenger hunt for the students to show off their problem solving and creative thinking skills to complete puzzles. Invisible ink riddle, elements anagram, decoding footprints and classifying organisms were only some of the fun things students completed during the hunt. Students in 8P were the overall winners, placing first AND second! A great achievement. All students that had a go won a prize and the feedback was very positive. Below are some photos from the day.

Also in Week 4, Mrs Andruschak took her Year 12 Biology students to the Museum of Human Disease in Sydney. They completed activities and looked at specimens related to the work they were doing in class. Photos unfortunately were not allowed in the museum (probably a good thing, there is lots of gross stuff inside there...), but looking at the photo, the students had a great time.

This week is the start of the Term 3 assessment period, so your students will be completing their tasks soon. Year 10 VALID assessment will be conducted in Week 7 and Year 8 in Week 3 of Term 4.

Until next time!
