Konnichi wa!
In the classroom and outdoors in the Japanese Cultural Garden, our students have embraced language learning while enjoying traditional Japanese summer festival activities, origami, cooking and games.
Year 11 students will sit their Preliminary Examination at the end of this term. The examination has four sections to test students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking language skills.
Ganbatte kudasai (Good luck!)
Year 7 Language
Year 7 and 11 students enjoyed learning about the Star Festivalcalled Tanabata. A festival tradition is to write tanzaku (wishes) and hang them on bamboo trees. We have a magnificent clumping bamboo tree in the Japanese Cultural Garden, perfect for tanzaku. Hopefully, the lucky bamboo will make all of their wishes come true.
This year is the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6th and 9th August 1945 respectively. Ceremonies were held in both cities to remember the victims of the atomic bombing and to pray for the realisation of lasting world peace. The story of ‘Sadako and the 1000 Paper Cranes’ inspires people all over the world to make paper cranes in memory of those who lost their lives. Students had the opportunity to make an origami crane, a symbol of hope and healing. A crane is quite difficult to fold for those who don’t regularly do origami. However, with patience and perseverance, most managed the task and were very proud of their efforts. We now have approximately 700 folded cranes. When we make 1000, we will send them to Hiroshima for display on the Children's Peace Monument.
Congratulations to the students who are consistently arriving to lessons with charged devices, ready for learning. It is important that devices are charged each evening so students have access to their Google Classroom and other language learning sites.
All students learning Japanese at FGHS have access to Japanese content on Education Perfect. This learning tool is used in the classroom but is also a great tool that students can access anytime if they want to reinforce and/or extend language learned in class.
This title recognises students for:
positive engagement in Japanese lessons.
