Striking Success at Support Tenpin Bowling Tryouts

On Friday, 25th July, a group of our Support students attended tenpin bowling tryouts at Raymond Terrace Strike Zone. Representing FGHS with great energy and sportsmanship, all students gave their best throughout the event. Following the tryouts, Brody Hackett, Noah Lowe, Abby Neilsen, and Dakota Stanik were selected for our FGHS bowling team, with Logan Jungnickel named as reserve. Congratulations to all involved, we’re proud of your efforts and the way you represented our school!

The FGHS bowling team will compete in the first round of the statewide competition on 22nd August 2025. We wish all team members the best of luck as they demonstrate their skills and team spirit.

Hunter Future Choices Expo

On Thursday 7th August, Support students in Year 9-12 were given the opportunity to attend the Hunter Future Choices Expo at Broadmeadow. Students engaged with numerous local support services and employers to learn more about how they could be supported on future endeavours, and they even scored some goodie bags!

Collaboration Skills - Making Marble Runs

Students in S2 and S9 have made marble runs recently as part of Work Education and Science lessons. Students had to work collaboratively with a partner to design and execute a functioning marble run. S2 students also had to evaluate the effectiveness of their partners' teamwork skills! Some excellent marble runs were made in the process; well done all!!

What else has been happening?

In preparation for NAIDOC Day earlier this term, some of our wonderful Support Students worked in collaboration with S2 staff to create lollipops and coloured popcorn. They were handed out as prizes for activities on the day and looked (and tasted) amazing!! Well done to everyone that helped!

As part of S8's study of physical sciences, students visited Huntlee Park and Speers Point Park to explore forces in motion in a real-world context. Using playground equipment, they investigated and examined how key concepts such as gravitational force, friction, centrifugal force, air resistance and applied forces influence movement. Observations included acceleration on slides, rotational motion on spinners, and the effects of push and pull forces on flying foxes and swings. The excursions supported students’ understanding of Newton’s Laws, reinforced a practical extension of classroom learning and gave students hands-on opportunities to see physics in action.

Recently, our Support Unit students came together in the quad to enjoy activities such as 9-square, tug of war, table tennis, Uno and colouring. The event encouraged students to practise important social skills like teamwork, communication and turn-taking in a fun and supportive environment. These activities also provided opportunities to strengthen friendships and celebrate positive behaviour. As we reach the middle of the term, it was wonderful to see students engaging, encouraging one another and enjoying success together. Events like this highlight the importance of social connections in supporting both learning and wellbeing. Well done everyone!
