The Gateway Learning Community (GLC) celebrated Education Week on 6 August at FGHS. It was a wonderful event with our leaders, Alison Silva and Connor Taylor, hosting the ceremony. The combined Aboriginal Dance Troup with representatives from all 8 schools welcomed the celebration with the combined choir closing the event. Regular attendance at school is more than just being present in the classroom — it’s about engaging fully in the learning journey and building the skills, relationships, and confidence that support success both academically and personally.
When students attend school consistently, they have the opportunity to:
Keep up with learning: Daily lessons build on one another, and missing even a few days can make it harder for students to keep up and feel confident in their work.
Develop positive routines: Consistent attendance helps students establish healthy habits like punctuality, responsibility, and time management.
Build strong relationships: Being at school regularly allows students to connect with their teachers and peers, fostering a sense of belonging and emotional wellbeing.
Access support: When students are present, teachers can identify their strengths and areas where extra help might be needed, ensuring every child has the support to thrive.
I understand that life can sometimes make it challenging for students to attend every day, but I encourage families to prioritise school attendance whenever possible.
Regular school attendance above 80% is also celebrated through whole year activities each term.
Last term the cast and crew of the musical 'Rock of Ages' put on a performance spectacular. The actors, singers, dancers, band, Musical Director and sound experts, all amazing students from Francis Greenway. The show was a display of talent and dedication. The special guests could not stop talking about how much they enjoyed the show and how amazing our students were, and that they couldn't wait to be invited to the next one.
Congratulations and thankyou to all the staff involved in the many rehearsals, ticket sales, organisation of the canteen and promotion of the show. Your commitment to our students does not go unnoticed.
The Uniform Policy has been revised this term. It was not a change in expectations or the type of clothing suitable for school, but reinforcing what is required. So far, the students have responded in a positive and respectful way overall. being accountable for their school clothing.
Wearing a school uniform is an important aspect of our school community as it fosters a strong sense of school pride and belonging among students. Uniforms help prepare students for the real world by encouraging discipline, responsibility, and professionalism. They promote equity by minimising socioeconomic differences, ensuring all students feel included and valued. The uniform policy at our school is endorsed by the Francis Greenway P&C Association, reflecting the community’s support and commitment.
Uniform support is available for those who require it by contacting the school.
As per policy, student may not be able to attend external excursions if uniform expectations are not met.
A copy of the policy is available on the school Facebook page and website.
Thank you to the parents who completed the feedback survey previously sent out.
