Youth Forum

In week 4, some of our senior SVT members and past school leaders were able to attend The Parliament of NSW’s Regional Roadshow Youth Forum in Cessnock.

The round table style forum was led by NSW Legislative Council President, The Hon. Ben Franklin MLC, local State Member, Mr Clayton Barr MP and other senior figures and Members of Parliament.

They guided the conversation, asking the students questions and to share their thoughts on topics such as their vision for the future as well as what effective representation means to them. To help create change from the bottom up.

Our student representatives spoke passionately about issues that are specific to our area and school context. Topics varied; however, in each instance our school representatives approached the issue with compassion, intelligence and an open mind. Students touched on issues such as: accessing study spaces, youth crime and police response times, access to mental health services and how to better look after the environment at a school and government level.

Future SVT Events

Mark your calendars! Footy Colours Day – Coming Week 10 !

For a gold coin donation students are encouraged to wear their favourite team’s colours, with all funds going to the Fight Cancer Foundation. Footy Colours Day is a national fundraising event in September where thousands of Australians come together to show their support for kids with cancer.

There will be plenty of opportunities to contribute and participate in the day including:

  • Face painting to get into the spirit

  • A delicious Sausage Sizzle at break time

  • And to top it all off… the first-ever Footy Colours Day Staff vs Students Touch Footy Match! This will be the start of a new school tradition – who will take out the first win?

We can’t wait to see everyone dressed in their colours, enjoying the day, and raising money for a great cause!
