State Soccer Champions!

Our senior boys soccer team have achieved the ultimate glory by winning the state championship!
The boys played brilliantly, progressing through the group stage strongly before facing Mill Park Secondary College in the final. It was a tight contest in testing conditions. Mill Park brought incredible pressure and skill to the contest. However, thanks to a brilliant goal against the play by Bailey, Brighton got up 1-0!
Below is a speech about the triumph from the all school Assembly on Tuesday by Sarp, Angelo and Sammy.
The story of this team goes all the way back to Year 7 where the majority of this team began playing together and developing the cohesion that would eventually lead to a state championship.
This year, we added Aden and Zach to the squad from the year 11 cohort, Ethan brought some scouse grit to the team, Tyler came in as goalkeeper and Angelo returned to Brighton from Haileybury because he missed playing soccer with us so much.
Back in May we travelled to Caulfield Park for the Kingston Round Robin and dominated each team we played against so much that in the final pool game we were able to give Tyler our goalkeeper and run out onfield and he scored a hat-trick. We played McKinnon in the final and beat them 2-1 as Angelo scored the first and Sammy scored the winner. We finished up playing 5 games and winning all 5.
The next step was the SMR finals in July, where the competition took a step up. In this competition we played 4 games and won all of them, scoring 7 goals and conceding 0. In the grand final we played Albert Park College, were defensively very strong and beat them 2-0 with goals from Sarp and one from Bailey who ran the length of the field.
Earlier this month we headed to Darebin to play against the best teams in the state. Once again, every single member of the squad played a key role as we won 2 and drew 1 of our group games, scoring 9 and conceding 0. Our last game together was the state grand final against Mill Park and we left everything on the field as Bailey’s goal gave us the trophy and a brilliant end to our time representing BSC.
Our win happened because of the teamwork and togetherness that we have had over the last 6 years and the pressure is now on for everyone here to win more state championships for the school.
