VET Tasters

As part of the VET Program, we give opportunities for Year 10 students to get a taster for what it's all about. This recently involved taking students on a Building and Construction excursions that gave them a real taste of working in the trades. Held in a fully equipped training environment, the sessions introduced students to the tools of the trade and the practical skills needed in carpentry and construction.
Students rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on from the very beginning. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, they used wood and power tools to construct a variety of projects, including benches and chess boards. They also gained experience in the finishing stages of construction, applying paint and varnish to bring their work to life and learning about the importance of detail and precision in the trade.
The taster sessions gave students an opportunity to explore potential career pathways, develop new skills, and experience the satisfaction of creating something tangible with their own hands. For many, it was their first time working with such tools and materials, and the sense of accomplishment was clear as projects were completed.
The taster was a valuable and rewarding experience, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm for vocational education and training.
