Economics Excursion

Year 11 Economics

On Monday 8th September, the Year 11 Economics and Year 10 I&E classes all travelled to the Port of Melbourne to learn about the volume and value of imports and exports that are shipped through the Port of Melbourne every year. This excursion ties in very well with what the students are learning in class about the impact of international trade for the Australian economy.

We learned some amazing facts and figures, with one of the largest imports entering Melbourne being coffee beans!! Melbourne is famous for it’s excellent coffee, so it’s got to come from somewhere!

Port Melbourne is the busiest container port in Australia, and the economic value of trade to come through the port is worth $153 billion annually.

The students all enjoyed a day out of class, and the excursion formed part of the assessment for Unit 2 AOS2 The economics of International Trade.
