NAIDOC Week - Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. Celebrate by exploring our growing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collection in biographiesnon-fiction and fiction.

Glen Eira Council - My Brother Jack Awards

The Awards recognise the outstanding literary achievements of people who live, work or study in Glen Eira. Prizes are awarded for short stories and poetry in the categories of Primary; Junior Secondary; Senior Secondary; and Open. More information can be found here. The My Brother Jack Awards are a celebration of local writing talent and the stories that shape our community. We would love to see as many entries as possible from GEC students. There are some fantastic prizes to be won! Students can talk to their English teacher or library staff if they’d like to know more.

CBCA Book Week 2022 - Dreaming with eyes open…

Book Week is coming in Term 3 and we will be celebrating with lots of fun activities. All of the books in the Older Readers shortlist for the Book of the Year award are available to borrow from the library.

Holiday Reads and Activities

The winter holidays are a great time to enjoy all the great resources the library has to offer. We encourage students to borrow from the library during this time. Check out new items added here and eBooks can be borrowed all through the holidays. Students go to https://gleneiracollege.wheelers.co/ and login with their EduPass login details to borrow.

Premiers’ Reading Challenge

It’s great to see our students embrace reading and the Challenge which is on now until 2nd September. We have had many students already complete the challenge and many books read! All students who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers and go into a draw to win prizes. To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information, visit www.education.vic.gov.au/prc. Students can contact library staff if they have any questions or issues.
