Year 8 News

As we near the end of Semester 1 it is time for us to extend our sincere thanks to all of Year 8 for the hard work and resilience they have demonstrated over the past few months. Many have thrived with the opportunity to get involved in different sporting and extracurricular activities. Year 8s performed very well in interschool sports recently, with some teams progressing to the next round. We cannot wait to see these skills on display in the Term 3 class vs class soccer competition.

We’d like to wish you all a pleasant break and look forward to greeting everyone back to school in July.

Year 9 News

We would like to seek support from all Year 9 families for the GEC school uniform policy, especially regarding the following: no nose piercing permitted, only natural hair colours are allowed, plain black shoes and socks are all part of school uniform. All this information is on our school website and in the student planner.

If a student can’t wear the expected uniform item, we require a signed note by parents/carers of the student to inform the school of the reason and consent given. The ‘out of uniform’ form is in the student planner.

If the student does come in the wrong uniform without a note a consequence will be issued.

Further, it is the school policy that no earbud earphones are allowed in the corridor or the school yard due to OHS reasons, but only allowed for educational needs if the class teacher requests them.

The Alpine School opportunity will be held in term 4. Schools apply each year for different times of the year at the different campuses. I have included the website to find out a bit more for all those interested http://www.alpineschool.vic.edu.au/There is also a Facebook page that is updated regularly.

At the Alpine school students will live on campus for 9 weeks and this year students will be will be at the Snowy River Campus. This opportunity is ALL leadership training and experiences and not academic. It will consist of 3 boys and 3 girls, focusing on collaboration, community service, respectful relationships, and goal setting. They will have one day per week to chill and have their own time. This is known as  a recharge day. There will be an opportunity for visit days where parents/ guardians can come and visit on a weekend. There are no phones of electronics as a part of the program. There will be a payment of about $1000.

Applications are due on the first day of term 3, Monday 11th July at 3:30pm. If you would like to submit prior, then you are most welcome to do so.

All forms of communication are done via google classroom therefore it would be beneficial for your child to ensure they have the appropriate classroom codes if they are not present for a lesson, or sick for a period of time. In this way they can keep up to date with the curriculum and will not be disadvantaged.

Year 9  camp will be held at Rubicon near lake Eildon, it is a 2 hour’s  drive from school and will be held from Monday 7th to Friday 11th November. More details will be posted later.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
