Dragon Boat Festival
International Students Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival
3rd of June 2022 is the 5th of May in Lunar Calendar, which is Dragon Boat Festival day in Chinese Culture. It is a day to commemorate patriotic soldier, QU YUAN, who sacrificed for his own country in China’s history.
On this special day, people will have traditional foods such as: ZONGZI, salted duck eggs, red-stamped steam BAO ZI. ZONGZI has been translated into sticky rice dumpling which is made of sticky rice with all kind of fillings like meat, chestnut, mushrooms, egg yoks, beans and peanuts etc., and wrapped with big bamboo leaves and banded with strings outside of the wrap. Zongzi can be wrapped in a shape of cone, a pyramid or a cylinder etc. And people will also run Dragon Boat racing on that day.
International students briefly celebrated this special day together. Every one of them got a package of ZONGZI and some snacks. They either took the ZONGZI home to share with their parents or homestay or ate them for lunch at school.
Thanks to Ms Tasiopoulos, who joined the international students!
