Year 7 Humanities - Exploring Ancient China

Students in Miss Ackroyd's Year 7 Humanities class have been exploring inventions from ancient China. Inventions such as gun powder, umbrellas, acupuncture, porcelain, paper money, tea, and silk influenced the everyday life and practice of people in ancient China, which later spread to Europe via the silk road. Many of these inventions have been adapted and refined over time and are still used today. Aarush Panuganti and Mack Mann (7D) decided to create their own 'seismograph' a device also known as an 'earthquake detector'. The seismograph was invented by Zhang Heng in 132 CE and is used to record motion during an earthquake. Students from 7D have enjoyed testing the device by creating ground motion through stomping and jumping.

Virtual Court Experience

On 3rd June the Year 12 Legal Studies class participated in an online incursion involving Judge Hampel from the County Court of Victoria. Two of her associates also attended who shared with us their experiences of completing University and starting work in the Victorian Justice System.

Judge Hampel described her background into law with a focus on criminal cases and human rights.  She shared with us her experiences of working as a judge in the County Court, focusing on how she determines cases and the considerations with sentencing. We were fortunate to hear about the types of cases she has presided over, including her most memorable one about two girls trying to join a football team. She was very passionate about her occupation, dedicated to educating us and furthering our current knowledge from our Legal Studies class. Overall, the experience was very informative and a great learning experience to further support our VCE studies.
