Year 12 Staff Vs Students: Floyd Cup
The long awaited 2025 instalment of the Floyd Cup arrived at Mazenod in style. So named after Mr Floyd, who was an influential teacher to the boys. The students beat the staff in a close but convincing volleyball win, putting the series at 1-0. The focus then moved to the 2nd and final game of the series. The stage was set for an extremely entertaining basketball game with a star-studded line-up from the teachers as they set to level the score.
From the start it proved that Mr Walczak and Mr Migro were a class above the rest with the staff getting off to a 5 point lead at half time. A fightback from the students led by Hugh F and Ivan R, who had multiple tough buckets in the clutch, to equalise the game which provided 3 lead changes in the last minute! The students had an opportunity to win it but a steal late had the game locked at 30 points each with time expiring.
Â
With much deliberation with Mr Walczak there will be a âwinner takes all gameâ which will take place after the exam break with indoor soccer being the sport of choice.Â

Intermediate SoccerÂ
Yesterday the Intermediate Soccer team hosted Kelmscott SHS at the College in the third game of the SSWA Shield Competition. After coming off 2 draws the team was looking for its first win of the competition. Mazenod struck first, after being awarded a penalty which Benjamin H slotted home nicely. Kelmscott struck back after a defensive mix up.
Mazenod again took the advantage after some great work from Lucas R which resulted in Jacob K scoring the second goal. Again, Kelmscott equalized just before the break with both teams heading into half time 2 all. After the break Kelmscott took control of the game scoring another 3 goals. The game finished 5-3 to Kelmscott. A disappointing result, however, great effort from the team against strong competition.
Year 7 ACC Football Carnival
The Year 7 Mazenod College team competed with determination and pride at the AFL Lightning Carnival, finishing the day with two strong wins and three hard-fought losses. The boys displayed excellent sportsmanship, tough football skills and unwavering support for one another throughout the day. Standout performances came from Max P, Oliver S, Jett T and Ben S, who led by example with their skill, effort and leadership. It was a fantastic day of football and a great representation of Mazenod spirit.
