Year 11 Outdoor Education

The Year 11 Outdoor Education classes travelled to the Warren area in Week 5 to undertake their first expedition of 2025. The focus of this expedition was to continue developing and refining their bushwalking, navigation and camping skills. We tested our orienteering skills by completing two courses in Armadale and Nannup before arriving in Manjimup.

We also underwent further Bibbulmum Track maintenance in the area Mazenod College is responsible for. This included jobs such as trimming back overgrowth, stacking firewood, paint touch ups and varnish stains to name a few.

The group camped for two nights along the Bibbulmun Track, one group starting at Greens Island Campground and the other group starting at the aptly named Boarding House camp site. The groups hiked between the two and switched camp locations on Day 2.

Thank you to Mr Truss, Mr Wallis, Mr Websdale and Matthew Schultz (’21) for assisting with the smooth running of the expedition.

What the students said:

  • “I think this has to be my favourite biome in Western Australia”.

  • “I liked talking / working with people I usually don’t talk to. (He) also showed great vulnerability by speaking with me”.

  • “This is exactly the mental break I needed from my ATAR studies – I feel refreshed!”

  • “I was judging this before, but its actually a lot of fun!”

  • “This is sick”.
