Farewell Anne!

Anne Greenley: Behind the scenes but at the heart of it all!

For the past 18 years, Anne Greenley has been an integral part of the Mazenod community. She is stepping down from her full-time role this week but will continue to work part-time until the end of the year. In her role as Arts Administrator, Anne has brought order, care, and quiet professionalism to every part of the department; organising music lessons, managing timetables, supporting staff and helping events run smoothly without ever stepping into the spotlight herself.

Anne’s involvement with Mazenod began long before she joined the staff. With her three sons graduating from the College, she has been part of the community for many years. That long-standing connection has been evident in the pride, dedication and care she has brought to her work every single day.

From 2007 to 2016, Anne co-organised the Mazenod Art Show. This was a spectacular event that showcased local artists as well as the talents of our own students in Visual Art and Design and Technology. She also played a vital behind-the-scenes role in the College’s musical productions, making sure things happened when and how they were supposed to. While others were centre stage, Anne was the one keeping the production wheels turning, with checklists, great ideas, and a signature “we’ll get it done” attitude.

She has worked closely with instrumental tutors, parents and students, and has spent more hours than anyone could count chasing boys who had forgotten their music lesson again. Her ongoing battle to get students to actually let her know when they have a test (“I can’t do my music lesson, I’ve got a test then…”) deserves a commemorative plaque in the music office.

Anne has also helped in many other areas of College life. She organised the Mazenod Presentation Evening for many years, served as an exam scribe for injured students, and always put up her hand to help in the canteen or front office when needed. Anne also helped launch the College’s Sustainability Group, inspiring students and staff to take better care of the environment and think more deeply about their impact. She’s proofread innumerable College publications with the highest standards of spelling and grammar. No student (or staff member) has ever gotten away with incorrectly saying “me and [insert name] are…” without Anne politely but firmly setting them straight. Anne has always worked with the students’ best interests at heart, maintaining high standards with warmth, consistency and care.

On a personal note, it’s been an absolute pleasure working with Anne for the last 14 and a half years. She has made my work and my life so much easier with her reliability, attention to detail, and her dry sense of humour. I know I speak for many of us when I say that I will miss her (and her famous Apple and Sour Cream Slice) deeply.

As Anne transitions into retirement, we wish her all the very best for this next chapter; especially as she now gets to enjoy time with her recently born, first grandchild. A well-deserved reward for years of service, care and dedication.

Mazenod won’t be the same without you, Anne!!!
